Re: Time between hearing Stina first and buying a CD

a guy called Deke Rivers (a self proclaimed greatest Virginia Astley fan in the whole wide world) put a message up on a music forum stating that he'd met you about 6 years ago when you were working in a Notting Hill record shop and got the info from you then!! I would think it would have been quite...

sound world wrote:So what do you play,Debbie?
Guitar, mostly, but am now playing banjo in an all female garage band called The Nuns.
were a tribute to The Monks - a seriously obscure '60s band.
We've got a gig tonight in north London if anyone's interested.

Re: Time between hearing Stina first and buying a CD

Whilst doing a bit of 'googling' on Echobelly i've come across a piece of trivia that links me to Debbie. Its seems Debbie (and I'm sure you'll correct me if i'm wrong here) use to be a neighbour to cellist Audrey Riley, who use to be in Virginia Astley's backing band and of course,I co-mana...

Re: Time between hearing Stina first and buying a CD

The first song was, as we all know, 'When Debbie's Back From Texas'. Well!!! I bought it immediately, Stina pulled me through another crisis, and a musical love affair began. Can you guess my name? :D Texas? [b)] Nice story but what a coincidence? :) Coincidence... ...or fate?

I'm Not There

Anyone seen this yet?
I'm intrigued, if only for the device of having Bob Dylan played by seven different actors.
I'm looking forward to seeing Cate Blanchett as 65/66-era Dylan - saw a snippet on YouTube that looked really good. Tipped for an Oscar, apparently. Cate, not the film.

Re: Time between hearing Stina first and buying a CD

I was in a band that was recording an album in a residential studio in Oxfordshire. I had only just joined the group and was basically sharing a flat with people I didn't really know very well; wasn't really sure that I even liked them, or them me. The studio complex was great, MTV in every room as ...

Control

A fantastic film about the short life of Ian Curtis, the lead singer and lyricist of Joy Division. Samantha Morton is superb, Sam Reilly does a great job of portraying Ian, and overall it's a fine directorial debut from Anton Corbijn. The thing that impressed me the most (as a musician myself) is th...

I got it for Xmas. I really liked the contrast of Within You Without You 's vocal on top of Tomorrow Never Knows 's backing track, and there are interesting things going on practically throughout the album. it would be interesting to hear it whilst watching the show. The sound quality on the DVD DTS...

OMG!! Thanks Travis!!!!!!

I missed this first time around - it's great to see Stina actually talking (albeit very uncomfortably) about herself & her music. A rare treat. 8)
