thanks for providing me yet ANOTHER explanation for 'parvoart'... [tup]sound world wrote:Arvo Part,oh right I geddit...duh.[:o]
I always thought it was to do with 'Art' and 'Parvo' meaning,er,um,something in Latin.('A little',innit? or 'poor'or summat,'multum in parvo'??).So RobB's 'Pervofart' was close,LOL. Anyway it isn't what I thought.Or maybe it is?
Whatever welcome back Coimtho Cithmoich Cmithoi...Doc!
apart from my 'intended' meaning, the only other explanation i was able to come up with is that 'parvo' is a canine disease (a new one at that, first case diagnosed 1978) which is similar to distemper and seems to have 'jumped' from cats... bizarre. thus parvoart has a sort of non meaning similar to another of my musical inspirations, bark psychosis.
a cursory i-net check of latin coughed up this: "in parvo" = "in miniature"
brilliant - given that most of what i do is minimal and what i've been doing recently barely makes the 3 minute mark, that's very apt!
fascinating how many interpretations one can draw out of band names, song titles, lyrics etc. that the author hadn't given any consideration to but which makes sense somehow... shades of jung's collective consciousness maybe?
the cqd abbreviation of my unwieldy user name was 'coim', which without the 'h' would then be pronounced 'kim' - 'coimh' would be 'kiv'...
whatever [crazy]
