Polly Scattergood

Post by RobB »

I've been playing 'Polly Scattergood', the debut album by Polly Scattergood a lot these past couple of days.

Quirky, thoughtful, sometimes quiet electro pop music that might appeal to anyone into Stina / Tori / Kate / Emiliana.

It certainly appeals to me and songs like 'Poem Song' & 'Breathe In,Breathe Out' are already firm favourites.

Always good to support a local artist too. :)

I've listened to the tracks but they don't really grab me. It seems that Polly doesn't get very good reviews:

Reading that list of comments i thought they were fairly balanced and fair. I've listened to the album about a dozen times now and its grower. For a debut i'm impressed enough to think she's got enough talant to have a long career anyway. I hope so as i'm spending enough grabbing up all her promos before they become too scarce.

pretty good, her singing reminds me of Emilie Simon a bit.

I'm a bigfan of Emilie's music and I can't find some close link to her here.
Polly is a poor mix of female artists, unluckily not the good parts were taken.
I believe in your smile everyday
But I know that you're far from my way
When I talk to the moon I can hear you
In the dark I can see, I can feel your light

Its not the same style of music but there is something in their singing 'accents' that to me sounds similar.

I'll skip the second album (Arrows) and so here we are, eleven years on, and its album #3, In This Moment. I've been playing it a lot over the last few days and really enjoying it. Its certainly attracting a lot of positive reviews and there is much to be enjoyed here, especially for anyone into electro-pop with vintage synths to the fore.
