the official happy birthday MORRISSEY thread!

Post by bigmouth »

Is anyone here a Morrissey-fan?
Do you know the handsome devil of the Smiths...?

Well, today is his birthday.
50 years of good lyrics.
There's more to life than Morrissey [Stina] and Morbidity, you know... but not much more.

Congratulations mozza! [bday]

I used to enjoy the Smiths back in the day (and I was living near Manchester at the time) but I haven't followed his solo career at all.I always thought the success of the Smiths was down to the admixture of Mozza's character/weird abecedarian arpeggiated singing and Johnny Marr's excellent, economical music, plus the way they managed to tap into a peculiar corner of Englishness in a unique way.
Well,HB Mozza, welcome to the ranks of us 50-somethings. [bday]

I never could get into the Smiths i'm afraid.
Don't know why because i use to love Pink Floyd and Tindersticks and you couldn't get much more miserable than them.

I guess nearly everyone in that Punk/New Wave era are all 50 or beyond now.?
Anyway,happy birthday to Stephen. :)

I know nothing about this artist (or group). But happy birthday to him!

Should I be ashamed?

Note - I am not British

I think Pink Floyd are some kind of diametrical opposite to the Smiths in terms of attitude.Pink Floyd-'we are macho,we are Important, our music is very slow and meaningful'; whereas the Smiths were very good at being campy,self-deflatory and ironic.

yes and no

If you're in to the melancholy of Stina Nordenstam, Morrissey is pretty close; maybe more witty, but still dark lyrics... a huge icon.

yeah. PinkFloyd is [maybe almost] the most opposite to Smiths/Morrissey you can get .

I had the most debilitating crush on Moz back in '83/'84 ..... This Charming Man rocked my world, and when he turned up on TOTP with the shirt open to the waist and the gladioli, well, I was a goner.

Which makes the recent nuddy pics all the more traumatic. Moz, you're 50 years old, love. Put it away! :D
Ice, you were the one most tender with the rivers.
You, the roof of the waves, layer after layer after layer ...

So it wasn't just the gladioli that had wilted after 25 years then?

That is one hot photo. [love] This would be the kind of thing I jerked off on when I was in my teens. But that's probably too much info for all of you.
