I don't know whether to laugh or cry. On the one hand, how reassuring that there are still men out there who like a woman to look like a woman, not a naked little girl. On the other, how depressing that normality seems to have become a sub-genre.

I don't think you misread. Aha. :D

There might be worse things than being a kept man for a while, Paul. Just make sure you have your make-up done and your best frock on when he gets in from work!

I'm on the hunt for alternatives to 'grandma' and 'nanny'. Some European alternatives, maybe? The Italian is 'nonna' apparently which is too much like nana. What's the French/Dutch/Swedish? :?:

mamie
I believe in your smile everyday
But I know that you're far from my way
When I talk to the moon I can hear you
In the dark I can see, I can feel your light

I like that! But maybe a bit close to 'mammy', which is what children in Scotland/Ireland/Wales call their mums.

Thanks for that Rob, some interesting alternatives there. I love this quote:

'I told my grandchildren to call me Birdie. My daughter thinks I'm in denial but I just wanted to be unique.' :D ^

That is a funny title. It reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut's 'Breakfast of Champions', in which one of the characters sees a magazine advertising 'wide-open beavers!' and assumes it's some kind of advanced taxidermy.

Some of the names on that Grandparents list are hysterical. I love 'Grandbotham' .

Actually it might not be that long, conceivably (ha-pun unintended) before I have to start thinking about these names too...

In the Netherlands less then 4% of the people are unemployed. So it's not as bad in some European countries. But I do believe it's best to get a new job before leaving the old one!

In Dutch it would be 'oma'. In Frisian (a language from the North of the Netherlands) it is 'Beppe'.

Mémé in French. In Swedish, hum, actually I don't know, kids usually call their grandparents by their name. Grandma is farmor (dad's mum) or mormor (mum's mum). Swedish is very easy!
