How are you today?

Re: How are you today?
Not long in from the hospital, my gorgeous little grandson Rocco arrived at 11.23pm - he's absolutely adorable, just like his mum. He cried a little bit when he was born, then good as gold - very quiet, and looking all around as if to say 'what the hell just happened?'
I just can't get over how beautiful he is, and how calm. It was a bit like going back in time to when I had Kate. He's taking it all in his stride, just like she did.
I am also full of admiration and pride at how my daughter coped with the labour - she was amazing, even between the worst contractions she was good humoured and calm, and people were commenting on how polite she was. They're used to hearing some pretty colourful language from mums in labour, but she was totally delightful, making people laugh and remembering to say 'please' and 'thank you'. I'm incredibly proud of her, she handled it all with such grace and humour, despite being in awful pain hour after hour.
I must say it was one of the toughest things I've ever experienced, I had to leave the room at one point when the contractions got into the really strong phase because I couldn't keep from crying, I had to get out and not let her see. After that I pulled myself together and managed to actually be some use I think, I was with her and she looked constantly into my eyes during each contraction. Quite something to experience.
It all got very scary at the end just after he was born, she was losing a tremendous amount of blood and there was a sudden slightly panicky burst of activity, lots of people running about doing stuff to her. They couldn't stem the bleeding, she lost over 2 pints of blood during the delivery and then continued to bleed. Turns out little Rocco did quite a bit of damage on his way out, so Kate had to go to theatre for an operation. We stayed with baby until she came back, then they kicked us out.
I doubt I'll sleep tonight, but thankfully my colleague is going to do my shift at work tomorrow, so I can be with Kate if she needs me.
*eta*
Forgot to say, he was 8lbs exactly. He has the most enormous hands and feet.

congratulation to the family !
I believe in your smile everyday
But I know that you're far from my way
When I talk to the moon I can hear you
In the dark I can see, I can feel your light

Re: How are you today?
Rocco just managed to enter the world as a Libran....with only 37 minutes to spare. That was cutting it close.RobB wrote:Thanks for the wonderful news granny-boo-blue-beth......delighted to hear everyone is doing fine.
Congratulations to all.
He also shares his birthday with such notables as Pele, Gummo Marx & 'Weird' Al Yankovic.
hmmm....maybe he should have waited forty minutes?

Fantastic news, Beth!
So much to chat about, no time...
Re: How are you today?
He didn't quite make it Rob, the signs change at slightly different times each year - I did his chart online when I got home and he's a sun sign Scorpio, albeit by only 0.25 of a degree! Even if she'd had him a bit earlier though it wouldn't have mattered as he also has three of the personal planets in Scorpio. Yikes. Added to which, he's a Leo Ascendant. He is certainly going to be a force to be reckoned with. A king with a sting.RobB wrote:

He's so utterly adorable, I can't wait to see him again later today. Still waiting to hear what's happening with Kate, whether she has to stay in for a few days or can go home. She sent me a text a little while ago and seems in good spirits, although she hasn't slept at all so she's completely exhausted, poor girl.
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone, and I apologise in advance for all the weeks ahead when I am going to bore you all rigid with every detail of little Rocco's daily life.

The important thing is that, for example, in twenty years time,he'll be able to open any newspaper on 23rd October, read his horoscope as a Libran.....thats what counts.blue wrote:He didn't quite make it Rob, the signs change at slightly different times each year - I did his chart online when I got home and he's a sun sign Scorpio, albeit by only 0.25 of a degree!
I'm looking forward to seeing the first photo of granny and grandson.blue wrote:Thanks for all the good wishes everyone, and I apologise in advance for all the weeks ahead when I am going to bore you all rigid with every detail of little Rocco's daily life.![]()
Re: How are you today?
Well he's officially right on the cusp so I'm hoping some of that lovely Libran energy finds its way into his personality, but with the influence of Scorpio from the other planets I'm not holding my breath.RobB wrote: The important thing is that, for example, in twenty years time,he'll be able to open any newspaper on 23rd October, read his horoscope as a Libran.....thats what counts.![]()
I must really, really like this baby because I actually let his father take a photo of me with him, this will be the only picture of me in my adult life apart from my wedding photos! I've got quite a few of him on my phone but I have no idea how to get them onto the laptop, I so wish I could post them because he's so adorable.RobB wrote:I'm looking forward to seeing the first photo of granny and grandson.![]()

You had 24 minutes and thats the best excuse you could come up with, is it?blue wrote:I've got quite a few of him on my phone but I have no idea how to get them onto the laptop, I so wish I could post them because he's so adorable.
Stop being so camera shy....please reveal all.I'm sure its a lovely photo of you and Rocky (no doubt that will be Rocco's nickname).
Re: How are you today?
The picture of me with him is on his dad's camera Rob, it's not mine!
I really don't know how to get my pics of him from my phone to the laptop, presumably you need some sort of cable to do that? I didn't get anything with the phone that would connect to a USB port.

Re: How are you today?
Well, assuming 'dad' has a pc, he can transfer his pic from his camera to his pc and email you his pic to your pc so that you can post pic here.blue wrote:The picture of me with him is on his dad's camera Rob, it's not mine!
hmmm....don't really know anything about laptops to be honest. Now, lapdancers.....
Re: How are you today?
Hmm, I'll take it under consideration. I'll have to see the pic first, if it doesn't do justice to my stunning beauty then I'm afraid I will not be posting it.RobB wrote:

Apparently I've got internet on my phone, something called 'bluetooth', whatever the hell that is. I've no idea what it does or how to use it, but if Alex has any suggestions (other than justfuckinggoogleit.com) ....

Re: How are you today?
Worst case scenario you can always photoshop it..... do a Stina make-over kind of thing.....you know, wig, short skirt, kinky white boots.........only don't forget to leave Rocky in.blue wrote:Hmm, I'll take it under consideration. Re: How are you today?
I have a short moment now to post-I'm off up to York, my old stamping-ground, for the rest of this week to see some old friends and relive old memories (I lived there on and off for 15 years).
Amazing news, Beth! and sounds as if it was quite a transformative experience for you too. I remember when Robin was born I was on some kind of Cloud Nine, in a very sacred and special place, for a long time.
Welcome to the world, Rocco and may you have a fulfilling life! well done Kate and I hope Mum and Rocco are doing fine now. The early bonding is incredibly important.
Oddly, as well as birth, I have had friends dealing with Deaths and Marriages this weekend. One of our friends stayed on Friday night, ready to go to her 5-year-old nephew's funeral in Bristol yesterday.Yes, five years old. Really sad-the child had a genetic disease which both parents-who split up straight after his birth-were carriers of, unbeknownst to either of them. He never learnt to talk and had increasing ADHD tendencies as well as slowly deteriorating senses-his hearing was the only sense he had left in the last days of his life , and he loved to hear Mozart's 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik'. Terribly sad.
And last night, another friend was here who used to live locally. Her ex-partner, who's still around here, was getting married today, and although Hilary was invited, she demurred, understandably. But her daughter with ex-partner, (who is one of Robin's friends, same age) wanted to go, so Hilary came up and hung around here, feeling a bit miserable, of course.
So a strange weekend for us...
And tomorrow is Robin's 15th Birthday!
