New Job

Ladies and Gentlemen, I just had to share my joy with you.

For the first time in my life, I am employed at a place that I actually look forward to going to, the night before, despite having to wake at 0630. I leave the job dead tired and worn, but I always look forward to going back.

It's an English riding place, I ride western, but I'm Barn Manager of the property. It involves tons of physical labour, but it's something I love doing - working with horses. It's one of the only things in my life I've stuck to. Ever since I was 6 I've loved horses, it's been one of the only things I've learned about, retained and loved throughout the years.

So there. I love my job. How many people can say that? I hope more than I think.

Thats wonderful news.
It makes all the difference if you enjoy what you do.

Thats one piece of advice I give to kids these days......find a job you like doing and then get paid for it.

Too many people go for the money aspect and are then miserable in what they're doing.

What's the difference between 'English' and 'Western'? To do with how you work the reins?
I used to work with horses when I was musical director for a horse-drawn touring theatre in the 80s and early 90s,but those were big working horses and you didn't ride 'em.
And I echo what RobB says.I've only ever done work that I enjoy,never had much money,but no regrets in terms of job satisfaction.

Western saddle

You hold the reins with one hand (your left so you can rope with the right). Also, you direct the horse by neckreining with a curb bit,

not having direct contact with the horses mouth, but using mostly leverage. These saddles are used in roping, rodeos, barrel racing etc.

English saddle

With English you use both a rein in each hand and a snaffle bit

which has direct contact with the horses mouth. The english saddle is used for racing and jumping and stuff like that.

Great news Tiffany; and starting so early you get home early too? that would be nice; but the best thing is that you love your work; i also agree that earning money shouldn't be the reason you work...

I've always had the philosophy that you should "work to live, never live to work." But, hey if you can mix 'em up, that's cool too.

Only kinda down thing is the 45 min. drive, or so most would think. I love the long drive, personally. I get to wake up and have that music listening time I need so badly. I always enjoy it the best in the car for some reason. So I guess I get home close to 1800/6pm.

Also embarked on a new job. Not as pleasing as Tiffany, but after 3 years (not counting the 1-year unpaid shift) it is welcome.

I didn't change jobs, but I got a long-term contract now, so I'm happy with that; finally earning some decent money

Maybe 2007 will be a good year for all of us; if only Stina's album comes out on time...
