Whenever I start to develope a cold and get that tell-tale sign of a sore throat, I'm straight onto the malt vinegar which I drink down by the tablespoon full.........it always does the trick and halts and cures the cold in its tracks.

I'm having my first injection next friday, and the doc has talked about strapping up my thumb in the interim. Yay, woo hoo...shit.

My mother made me take cod liver oil every day when I was growing up, because of the tendency to arthritis in my father's family. She always said I'd thank her for it later, but I hated the stuff.

I don't think it actually helps a lot in terms of the kind of arthritis that's inherited, as Daniel and myself have. For more general rheumatic pain it probably does ease things a bit, and it's certainly known to have preventative qualities for that.

The only thing I find that really helps when the pain in my hips is making me miserable is soaking in a very hot bath. It doesn't ease the pain much but it relaxes me and stops my body tensing up so much and exacerbating the pain.

I've been referred to a hand specialist. The pain had started spreading down to my wrist by friday and my thumb makes a dull plastic snapping sound now randomly. I'll probably wake up with it snapped off one morning. The injection didn't happen on friday due to some concerns that it may not react well with my other medications. So I am on paracetamol at the moment until a specialist can determine the right course of treatment. It's frustrating as I want this to just go away, which of course is not going to happen.

Better safe than sorry though Daniel, if they have concerns about mixing meds it's right that they take them into account. Horrible for you, of course.

Try to space the paracetamol out to around six/seven hour intervals (you know you can only take three doses in 24 hours, right?), I find it works better that way than taking a dose every four hours and then having nothing for 12 hours.

What a group we are, young and healthy I see...

Thank god nobody seems to have arthritis in my family, but I have enough to worry about my (not so much) older days and children with tumors, fibrosi cistica, ms and similars. I can't even overcome a lung-infection! I was expected back at work from tomorrow, but the doc said it wasn't the case and now I have an appointment with the company doctor, feels like they don't believe I am not up to work yet...

Here basically everything is cured with paracetamol, no matter how sick you are, it's ridiculous, that's why lots of us foreigners always bring a big stash of meds with us when back from a trip home. Ibofprufen makes me sleepy and I take paracetamol so often I'm surprised it still works, je je. One of my most loved meds was a french one, it had paracetamol, caffeine, belladonna and codeine, too bad it's not on the market anymore.
Daniel, I'm a weenie compared to you, but I can only suggest you not to lose all hope, especially if you trust your docs and feel they're really working for you. Let us know how it proceeds and all my support in this ordeal.

Feeling a bit better about things today, some good things are starting to come out of this. Firstly I have dyed my hair red, hehe for a laugh initially but it actually looks quite good surprisingly, shaved my beard down to a goatee, and started taking cod liver oil capsules. I've also found that as my piano/keyboard ability is stunted I have forced myself to collaborate with other 'humans' on my album

So who knows what the hell is gonna happen there

My major concern is that the pain seems to be spreading to the area where my wrist joins my hand. It constantly feels bruised at the moment and veins are all very prominent in that area. I'm keeping it strapped up this week to sort of make myself aware of it all the time. 30 years of right-handedness is hard to forget.

I take a lot of sleeping medications now due to suffering acute nyctophobia, one medication of which was deemed incompatible with the steroid used for the injection. My mother ended up with a gangleon at the base of her thumb which had to be surgically drained. I am really scared that this could happen, but I also know that she left it for a good while before doing anything about it.

But onwards and upwards, at least the temperature has dropped below 30 degrees everyday, which i can tell you after 7 months gets very draining in itself!!!! We had our first major downpour of rain in over 6 months on Friday which was lovely. We've been on really strict water restrictions for months now, so hopefully we are gonna get enough rain now to make up for that. It's quite sad here at the moment because nearly all the grass everywehere is dead.

Health is a big worry...

I had 2 stomach surgeries already and since few weeks I'm not feeding well as my stomach decided to go back in sick mode after month of good health...

So my doctor just told me I have to start again the process of stomach checkup (how lovely is an endoscopy ) and I have take pills everyday again starting today...
