Deputies say a woman in western Kansas sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years, and they're investigating whether she was mistreated.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple says a man called his office last month to report that something was wrong with his girlfriend.

The sheriff says the woman's muscles had atrophied and that medical personnel had to remove her from the toilet because she was bound to it by "natural means."

Whipple says the woman at first refused ambulance service and "didn't want to leave." She's hospitalized in Wichita, but is refusing to talk with authorities.

Whipple says his office is considering a charge of mistreatment of a dependent adult.

I don't even know what to make of that, without more information .... 'natural means'? What does that constitute, I wonder?

A young US father has been found guilty of badly injuring his infant daughter by putting her in a microwave.
The verdict today means the jurors turned aside 20-year-old Joshua Mauldin's argument that he was insane.
Jurors will now consider evidence on how to sentence him. He faces anywhere from probation to life in prison.
Mauldin claimed he was going through a psychotic episode when he put two-month-old Ana in a microwave for 10 to 20 seconds in May.
But prosecutors said Mauldin knowingly hurt his daughter because he was angry about being stuck in a loveless marriage.
Ana was badly burned and part of one ear had to be amputated. Officials say Ana is still receiving treatment but is doing well.

This brings to mind a particularly dreadful case here in the UK a few years ago, when a mother who was apparently suffering from schizophrenia put her baby son in a hot oven 'to bake'. The baby died, obviously, and I think the woman was sectioned.

It just doesn't bear thinking about, a tiny infant suffering such a horrifying trauma. It's the kind of thing that makes one look to the heavens and say 'how could you let this happen?' It makes you doubt that there is any meaning or purpose at all to this life.

A New Zealand man who claimed to have been left speaking Australian after being raped by a wombat has been sentenced to 75 hours community service.

Arthur Ross Cradock, a 48-year-old orchard worker, admitted in the Nelson District Court yesterday to the charge of using a phone for a fictitious purpose, after calling police with the message, "I've been raped by a wombat".

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Stringer told the court that on the afternoon of February 11 Cradock called the police communications centre, threatening to "smash the filth" if they arrived at his home that night.

When asked if he had an emergency, he replied "yes", Mr Stringer said.

On a second subsequent call to the communications centre, Cradock told police he was being raped by a wombat at his Motueka address, and sought their immediate help.

He called police again soon after, and gave his full name, saying he wanted to withdraw the complaint.

"I'll retract the rape complaint from the wombat, because he's pulled out," Cradock told the operator at the communications centre, who had no idea what he was talking about, Mr Stringer said.

"Apart from speaking Australian now, I'm pretty all right you know, I didn't hurt my bum at all," Cradock then told the operator.

Mr Stringer said alcohol had played a big part in Cradock's life. However, defence lawyer Michael Vesty said alcohol was not a problem that day.

How much alcohol do you need to have drunk to make a false rape allegation against a wombat?

Still, I suppose we should be grateful it wasn't enough to make him go and rape a wombat .....

I wonder how many falsely accused wombats there are in Australian prisons today?

And they're all kept in solitary confinement too, for their own safety.
