We're getting close now to the time of year when Stina normally releases her albums so hopefully there will be some positive news in the next few weeks.
Its only been four years since 'The World Is Saved' was released so the new album isn't exactly over due, even though Stina's mis-leading holding page was a tad premature.

She has said in several interviews that she has been diagnosed as borderline psychotic; she has genuine problems remembering things; she finds a lot of 'normal' activity to be very alien. She has no manager or spokesperson; her record company (V2) is having problems. etc etc. And apart from the odd appearance here, we have no inkling of her existence or wellbeing. There's no reason that she needs my concern,of course; but I'd just like to know that she was finding some creative fulfilment, and not being totally frustrated in having an outlet for her creativity.
I'm also partly concerned for her. Let's face it: her albums might have paid the rent for a while but I can't believe that she's still able to live from the earnings from an album that she released four years ago.
sound world wrote:No way am I going to give up on Stina-I do find that trend to be utterly mysterious.
Part of me is frustrated that she's not giving updates. Maybe I'm asking for too much, as Barrett suggests. But I've been following her for more than 14 years now. I've bought every release I could lay my hands on (in the beginning without internet that was a hell of a job). I feel that at least she owes it to her fans to keep us a tiny bit updated on what's happening.

But I also like the mystery of her. And I don't want her to start opening up too much (imagine: after the immense succes of The Osbournes MTV presents The Nordenstams.... brrrr [:xx] ). But just some hints about what's happening to keep us guessing, would be very welcome.

Hmm, let's not start artistbashing. That's of no use. [b)]

I don't agree with you Matt. I think this community is very clear in adoring Stina's musical skills. Sometimes they're just a bit sad about the lack of new music. I would love to hear more music from Stina but somehow something (wether it's herself or the state of the musicindustry) is holding her from releasing new material.
Matt Butterfly wrote:I thought well I belong here because I share a similar cult interest as you but was also born with an opinon. I know that opinon includes impatience. I'm an impatient person, yes, I know that, it's part of my personality but I also care alot about Stina enough to keep going on this forum to find out what's going on with her, would I do that if I didn't care?
You're poiting exactly out what I mean. Being frustrated about the lack of news or releases would not happen if that person didn't care about stina.

Let's try to keep everyone onboard please. [akiss] We're already with so few that every member should be treasured.

Matt, you just can't compare Björk and her way to manage her musical career, which is nice, and Stina's way of (almost) not managing anything. She's free enough / don't care enough about her music to not even having an official site (which is a shame, we all admit) nor updates about her. In fact, what do we know about her life ? I mean, how she earns money to live, etc ? We can guess as Paul she can't live only with her albums' sales.

So what ? We just have to wait for her and/or music industry to provide us a new album or news at least. So patient we have to be.

There are many many other artists worth the listen while waiting for miss Nordenstam's pieces of work, so relax everyone...

Oh, and about the website Kuhn, isn't there a way to keep it alive ? it's sad to see it disappear too... :V [b)]

My point originally was that being kept utterly in the dark is not a good career choice, Portishead, Kate Bush are two examples of artists who did little to nothing, yet there was always a whisper of something.

I can't understand why she can't just let us know 'something', I think Barrett you need to realise this sort of frustration comes from the fact that we aren't giving up on her, more that we appreciate her music so much that this is what huge huge gaps of silence does to her fans.

Stina will always be special, the first time I listened to Dynamite is one of my most memorable music memories, however I simply want to know is there an album or is there not?

C'mon we're all sick of 'Coming Soon'.

Now, I'm off for a flat white, it's a gorgeous day and I'm going shopping for Gus Van Sant films :D

I listen alot of artists and have many favourites , whom can all be considered strange by close-minded listeners but Stina is just something completely different which is why I got hooked on her.

and I admit originally the mysteriousness and the cult appeal was a factor on me liking her. Which is an advantage because she dosen't get so mainstream but a disadvantage because too be cult; you have to be surprising and have alot of spaces in your past that can be filled in and interpretated.

I get frustated about Stina because I care, I want to hear more because my ears are hungry for more Stina material that i haven't heard millions of times already.

It's an impulse that I'm sure we all share when we care about something; frustration.

Which is why I can't understand Barrett's sudden attack at my dedication (because remember there are only a few of us) and a thoughtless attack on my other favourite artists who I care also alot about. That's another form of frustration forming out of my then- my reaction to insults and artist-bashing.

I'm probably afraid to name drop any other favourites now.

to listen at all
He said I'm getting wet
You held your part

Well,it's the first of October tomorrow and I suspect if we don't have any news in the next two weeks it will mean that will be it for 2008 as far as a new album is concerned. :(

....and they're certainly worth listening to,but it sure would be nice to have something new to listen to after four years.

I was thinking yesterday that the time Stina was mixing 'The World Is Saved' can be pinpointed by that 'photo comp' that CQD had running with photograophs taken by Veronique when she visited Stina at Real World studios.
And thats starting to seem a very long time ago now.

The album release had been postponed for oct. 2003 until oct. 2004... and the recording/mixing took place in winter 2002 - spring 2003... if I remember well...

Yes,the mixing was done in September 2002.
I'm not sure if The World Is Saved required any further recordings but it does appear that there was then a two year delay in getting the album released.
This new album must have an even longer delay now. :?

Was that TWIS? I don't have time to check the liner notes of the albums right now, but I seem to remember that TWIS was mixed by Tchad Blake alone without Stina's assistance.

You're right Paul that Tchad Blake mixed TWIS and is certainly credited as sole mixer but I'm sure Stina would have been there, keeping an ear on things. Certainly it was at this time that Veronique was at Real World (which is at the bottom of Dave's garden which is how he quickly identified the location! ) taking piccies and she wouldn't have gone had Stina not been there.
Thats how I remember it anyway. :)
