Fan thing?

A review of "The Beekeeper" in Stylus Magazine (where our ~Michael aka Silents is writing) : http://www.stylusmagazine.com/review.php?ID=2759.
It seems like the reactions are more than generally bad about that record, which is not so much a good thing, me think [l)] .
I feels like fans around here tend to force themselves to like this record against all odds, something very understandable. I had the same thing when Prince put out "Batman" [disguise] , he never got back since then, unfortunately.
Still exemplary how strong the rejection is for some of you about that Bj?rk's "Med?lla", but here too there's something of a fan symptome : love than hate, indeed like many love stories. [cry]

I LOVE Med?lla ... once you get past all the distracting crap that surrounds it in the media and just listen to the songs you don't care whether she made them brushing her teeth or squashing tomatoes ...

I was in HMV yesterday afternoon and they were playing "The Beekeeper" in-store and i think there must have been three or so tracks before i realised who it was that was being played.
Not that i didn't recognise Tori's voice but it was just a case that the music sounded so bland and uninteresting that it just didn't register straight away.
I will check out the album eventually though but i think i'll give it a few months and then pick up a cheap copy from the bargain bins.

Do for me i think it's a nice work to listen to...At first i didn't like it either, but after a few times the record grows...The only difference amongst other records or her previous works, is that this one doesn't grow into something *huge*, it's just a bit "flat", it's
one flavor, it's about her right here, right now.
It has no special moments or stand-out tracks like Scarlet's Walk for instance, but as a records it flows very pleasantly in your ear i guess...
And on the other hand, i think it's cool that Tori has another direction, i mean she can't be forever with the same anger and fairy mood as in her first records were she became more well known...She is a real artist for me, she got married, has a sweet little daughter, a family, a career and lots of other things that a person needs to feel balanced and gain mental tranquility. If she kept on doing the same things then i think that there are 2 options: Either she could think like "Ok, i was introduced and loved by the people for this angry/desperate/.../.../blah,blah style; they liked me like this, so i won't risk do anything else that the audience may not like, so let's do one of the same again!" or if she really had no improvement, then she would be a really sick and unstable person nowadays...It's really unusual to have the same thoughts and face some things/situations the same way that you would do so maybe 10 or 15 years ago...We all grow and mature and this is always understandable by our work and the way we can communicate. That's why i strongly believe that Tori (amongst a few other artists) are the only genuine ones that they don't care about sales or what their label or audience is gonna say...They just present theirselves the way they are now and this is really brave i think! My boyfriend bought The Beekeeper for me yesterday while I was at work - wasnt that sweet? The only thing I can say right now is that I like it better on first listen than I liked Scarlet's Walk on first listen. SW grew on me quite a bit, but it took a while. With The Beekeeper, so far I keep hearing little things that I wouldn't expect on a Tori album, and I like that. But I suppose that's what's so disappointing to others. I, for one, am looking forward to getting to know these songs.

BTW, she was on a talk show yesterday performing Sleeps With Butterflies. Regis Philbin called it Sleeps With THE Butterflies. [fire] Anyway, I still think that song's very pretty but very boring. It was nice to see her on tv though.

24 is a bit bad for the UK market i guess...
It's gonna be even lower in other countries apart from the States, hopefully!

I've not bought the album (came very close had it in hand, special edition) and even though there are 3 tracks I like, it's not worth it for 16 I don't like!
I'll keep you posted on how she fares on the Aria (Australian sales) album chart. She doesn't appear to have been stocked very well by the big (well most common) stockists in Oz such as K-Mart, Target and Big W, but JB HiFi did have a nice little display for her - though seemed more enthusiastic about the new Mars Volta album, hehe which I have bought and is wonderful

Yeah, I know it's off topic, but I'd like to hear that last Mars Volta album. I wasn't caught at all by their first one, but I'm pretty curious bout that last one.

Last week "The Beekeeper" was a new entry in the UK album chart at #24......this week its down to #69
