Thanks! when i can get onto a computer that will let me visit it i will.

I just got WAY too exited. Saturday Night Live just had a really unfunny(as usual lately) submarine skit and at the end a guy sang "I wanna be in a bathyshpere." i know it's only one line, but I LOvE THAT SONG.

who can name the song?

You should hear 'Do the bathysphere' by David Toop (he who wrote the highly recommended book 'Ocean of sound'.

Right before I left work yesterday morning, I heard a new Cat Power song on an independant radio station. I never heard the name, tho. Great way to end a work shift. The release of the new record is soon right?

Isn't that a cover of the Smog song? Never heard the Cat Power version, but I do love me some Smog....

I love Chan's albums, Moonpix is my favourite, and from what I have heard the new one sounds like it might be similiar to moonpix, so I am really looking forward to hearing it. However, I have to confess I saw Chan live last year in London, and it was seriously disappointing. Perhaps my expectations were set too high ( it did also cost me about ?80, if you include journey and accommodation costs) it just seemed like she was just going through the motions, and she did not impart a tenth of the emotion she produces on record. It could of just been a bad night for her of course, but she seems to have a few bad nights when it comes to live performances. Perhaps she should be like Stina and just record and not bother with playing live

Yeah, i hear lots of people are disappointed after seeing her live. I'll find out Feb. 14!

But if you listen to a live bootleg album, you know what to expect. Sde stops in the middle of songs cuz she forgets and messes up and whatever. I so look forward to it. Sorry you were let down by it. I'd agree with you about the 'maybe she shouldn't preform live' thing, but i love seeing famous people mess up and i love hearing Chan preform live.. makes them seem human.

yep, it's "Bathysphere", a Smog song covered by Catpower on the album "What would the community think" released on 1996.

Heard a title from the forthcoming album, I'm pretty impatient to get it next week

I got the new album of Chan, little pick-me-up received from my loving boyfriend

. I reckon it will take me a while to get used to it, I'm a huge Catpower fan and I have my favourite sound of course. I still think her voice is just to shiver, but there is too much band on this record. I really didn't need these old musicians to accompany her...with a few spins I'm sure I will manage to strip the songs from the extras and focus on the melody lines alone, usually they're killing...The title track is really beautiful already [tup]
'bout the bathysphere song, the original and the cover are fantastic, no reason to pick one over the other

And the live, I'm happy I saw her live, she didn't mess up too much that one time, I have a very intimate memory of it, but yes, you can fear the worst at her concerts

I'd love to hear the original smog song, i've never heard it.

i'l have to look for the album, i wasn't sure when it'd be out.

i've been trying to get tickets to see Chan in NYC @Town Hall 14.Feb.06 and it seems they arent' on sale yet or something...anyone know anything? I've gotta make a few phone calls. They better not be sold out!

About that video, are you talking about that dvd Speaking For Trees?
I own it and it is indeed quite special. I like it for mellow sweet lazy sunday afternon... You hear the wind, the trees, insects and a little of Chan's voice and guitar. Basically i put it in the dvd player and switch off the screen. Nothing interesting to look at as far as i'm concerned...
Also to be noted, she repeats some songs a few times as well so it's not extremely rich as to the content either. But as long as the girl's so raw...

I just found out the tickets for NYC are completely sold out. I'm soooo far beyond pissed. All those people that don't know and appreciate her and just wanted a show to go to on Valentines day... Most will probably hate it if they don't expect it. I'm still going to see if i can flirt my way in.

i bought the new cd digipak, apparently it has a bonus track. wo hoo!

The record has grown into me and it's really really good. Could still make it without a lot of instrumentation, but it's touching me more and more. Her lyrics have never been so clearly about love and broken heart, jeez, it's good...

Actually, she told me she wanted to buy it for herself too...
Feels weird when your parents start to be interested by artists who weren't mainstream...That means they made it into the papers and radios that they watch.
