Well the first exam is over. So I posted another message.

Stina's dialogue reminded me of comments Virginia Astley once made to the NME in September 1983.

'I used to love this time of year' she whispers 'I'll always remember riding into school with my sister on our bikes at the beginning of the autumn term. I loved that feeling that you sometimes got on the first cold mornings at the end of summer...the clear blue skies and the falling leaves.'

The same reasons that CQD died for? So did CQD 'die' (it's still there,albeit a cipher) because the server put the bills up? if that was the only reason,I'm sure we would have been told.
V's favourite quote 'life is full of opportunities'-in true enigmatic V fashion I never know whether to take that to mean 'something good is about to happen' or 'why don't you lot give up and go and do something less frustrating instead?'

Anyway always nice to get any kind of message from those somewhere near Stina's particular Olympus...

Actually Dave, I don't think this is just a money issue.

It's also a problem that this community falls apart because of the total lack of news from the stina camp. And that's exactly what killed CQD just two months after The World Is Saved was released.

As hard as some of us has tried to deny it - wink, elizabeth - I guess stina is partially what holds this community together. Everytime there's no news from stina this community grows silent. As there is a constant lack of stina news... it must be distant to bleed dry.

I read this as a message that says that once something goes away, it makes place for something else. It might not be such a bad thing.

I very much doubt that V. is still in contact with Stina. But I don't know for sure. Somehow I don't feel like Stina is someone for the longterm relationships. But maybe this is just me in a very cynic mood.

Like someone else just commented - she does have a limited attention span (although certainly long enough to impress at what she puts her mind to). Frankly, I wonder that she's been making music for so long, and I have (very cynically, perhaps) wondered if it's that it is the most reliable way to make money, once you have a bit of a following.

Which brings us around to cash again... Maybe we should have a Fun Run for Desire Avenue, and a Tombola for Stina. (but nothing for Magnus)

In an interview around TWIS,Stina said that TWIS was funded half by herself and half by her manager.Well,there ain't that manager any more,and I think Stina relied on him to keep her abreast of her finances.
I shouldn't think TWIS has kept the bank manager too happy.

Well yes Paul I guess you're right.In fact the few of us who keep coming back are all loyal Stina fans rather than people who just like a chat,I think.For myself,there's no doubt that I come here for Stina news and chat *(hollow laughter)* Yes I can feel very cynical about it too.

Conspiracy theory-I wonder if there was maybe a very unenthusiastic response from Stina to the CQD book,perhaps it was the last in a series of things to piss V off and persuade her to throw in the towel.
I get the sense that Stina is quite a self-centred individual.There's nothing wrong with that of course,and similarly she doesn't need to communicate with her fans at all.But for OTHER people,fans,managers,acolytes,it's going to be hard sometimes.

Agreed about everything there.

One point though : would have she participated to the CQD book without any interest ? She wasn't forced to do it after all. And Dave, don't forget our response to the CQD book has been quite balanced... (cost, printing, CD-r with mp3, etc.).

By the way, we'll never know what really happened, and maybe it's better. If it's close to what you said, well, it's not amusing.
