i wouldn't recommend all of it, but massive attack is pretty mainstream, leila's music is bit like early tricky (that will please elfy!), so nothing too weird there either. and marc ribot's guitar playing is very easy on the ears.

where i was surprised myself was the burial album. dubstep sort of evolved from drum'n'bass, and while there's echoes of that in there, there's a lot of ambient and massive attack like sounds too. certainly sonically there's nothing than that much more extreme than anything you might find on a bj?rk album!

Leila and the 'Like Weather' album seemed rather familiar when I read your listing yesterday and having just gone upstairs to check out my collection I now know why......I've got the album too.

I vaguely rememeber buying it for a couple of quid in (of all places) a WH Smith summer sale about 7 years ago.
I also less vaguely remember playing it at home and thinking that it was king awful and havn't played it since.

hmmm.....time to give it another chance maybe?

Does Luca Santucci's voice (from Leila's albums) drive anyone else completely up the wall? I don't like male voices to begin with but his makes my want to gouge my ears out.

I don't enjoy Donna Paul's voice either. So really the only tracks are like are the ones with her sister Roya's voice and the instrumentals. If it was all Roya's voice i would like 'Like Weather', 'Courtesy of Choice', and all of her many b-sides a lot more than i do, because she really is a producing genius, responsible for at least half of Bj?rk's song Nameless, which was subsequently destroyed when noised up for Bj?rk's OST to Drawing Restraint 9.

I'm into almost any genre, as long as it is interesting.

lately I've been really into the retro-futuristic sci-fi 60's-esque band Broadcast.

Also, the experimental rock band The Fiery Furnaces.

actually, er, no, i thought the fella's voice was ok! it's not al green or curtis mayfield for sure, but i think it sits in the music ok. but i'm no expert on soul!

now i'm going to have to listen again to see which of the girls sings on which songs...

ok... well ok, donna paul's voice isn't the best, but i like the song. AND it was nearly all recorded at home on a fairly primitive set-up (kinda one of the reasons i like it), so maybe leila didn't do her justice?

my main problem is trying to remember leila isn't the one singing!

another reason i like the album is the mix between your downtempo tek-soul ballads and the intrumentals, where hints of our leila's classical training peak through. as for the second album, i only know 2 songs of that. is she still going?

There still going strong, they come from my neck of the woods (birmingham UK) so I have kind of followed there career, they have a new album 'the future crayon' due for release just about now.

Lately, Mr. Johnny Cash. Seriously, I've been listening to it out the wazoo, because the love of my life, Dave is upstate getting things ready for me to join him and it reminds me of him. I miss him so much. He's the Johnny to my June.

I bought a 2 disc set or "Country Boy" and "Train of Love. $10: hooray for Walmart!
I aquired four 33's -"Orange Blossom Special" a 2 record greatest hits and one more, i forget what it is. They looked at me weird when I brought my portable record player to work.

I've decided this year the week of September 12th (10-16th) is going to be National Johnny Cash Week, where everyone should listen to at least one Johnny song every single day of the week. It's in honour of his death on September 12th 2003.
