The Beekeeper was her worst selling album last time I checked. The recent press release said that it sold just under 250,000.

I think what she's trying to do with this record is score a big hit by producing more of the same easy crap, but this time more uptempo. A lot of TBK tracks had middling tempos. I suspect it's a case of 'let's put a faster beat under it, then it'll sell.'

I'm probably reaching though, hoping that it's Epic putting her under pressure. And even if it was, where is the woman who consistently boasts about fighting and winning battles with record companies for her artistic freedom?

I think the fundamental problem is that her ego has gotten out of control, she truly believes she's a FORCE and that everything she does is hugely important. A while back, someone who'd chatted to her at a meet and greet on the OS tour reported that she'd said her next album was going to 'inspire generations'.

Seriously - the woman is just deluded, at this point. You wait and see what ridiculous guff she comes out with in the interviews to justify this album. I bet you she'll believe every word, even if no-one else does.

It's all so sad. If she was actually producing music to back up her high opinion of herself you could say OK, not too keen on the attitude, but she's bringing it. As it is though, she's coming out with all this talk and then giving us ... Goodbye Pisces. She's making herself look ridiculous, and I have an awful feeling that this time the press are going to take the gloves off. I think she's in for a really rough ride with this record.

the song i absolutely cannot stand her vocals on is Barons of Suburbia. My dear god.

oh it is awful, but on the plus side it really does make the cats pull a funny face when you singing it to them as she does

Blue, something tells me that idea about shaking her until her nosebleeds is going to be something many people will want to do after 23 damn tracks of this bligey piffle

If I listen to Secret Spell today I imagine I will have to be given electroshock treatment and a sedative just to stop me choking on my own scorn

I *hate* Barons of Suburbia - the strangulated pronunciation, the music, everything. Hate it. Her phrasing throughout that album, the way she fits the words to the music, is terrible. Which is confusing because it was at it's glorious best on the previous album, Scarlet's Walk.

I edited down TBK to an EP, which is marvellous, Baron did not make the cut hehe.

But I really like Garlands, which thankfully I got as an mp3, and that was stuck on the bonus DVD.

When you read the book that comes with A Piano and then listen to her new stuff you wonder whether she ever sits down and actually listens to herself at all anymore.

well if she really believes that Big Wheel or Bouncing Off Clouds is going to inspire generations she's kind of bringing it on herself.

Garlands is the only track from the whole TBK project that's truly worthy of her. I adore that song, absolutely adore it. It's SO frustrating to know that she can still come up with something that beautiful and odd and moving, but she CHOOSES to churn out vast amounts of worthless rubbish instead.

Maybe ADP will have another song of the quality of Garlands, that's really the limit of my hopes now. I have aquaintances over on MTF who also adore that song, so I'm sure if there's another like it on this record they'll let me know about it.

Right now I'm not sure I even want to download any more tracks.

This is very distressing for us! Have some respect!

I'm afraid to even report this, but the first indirect quote from Tori about the record has appeared in print and it seems to confirm the idea floating around the past few days that the 'American Doll Posse' is a group of five characters who all have their own songs on the record. I was already dubious about this idea, but it seems the characters are actually - oh god - 'well known female musicians' who are/were 'trailblazers'.

She's going to be 'doing' other female artists.

This could explain the 80s vibe of 'Bouncing Off Clouds'?

I was just thinking the same thing Dave.

I was also thinking that if Stina has read this thread that she might be going back and having another listen to her new album,just to make sure that it is as good as she thinks it is.

Incidentally, inspired by all these recent posts, yesterday afternoon I had another listen to The Beekeeper and yes,I still quite like it.
Yes,it is overlong ( 19 tracks and 79 minutes I believe) but if you knock off half the tracks ( of weaker material), whats left does make for a pleasant if undemanding listen.
