Jolie Holland

Now quite enjoing "escondida" by Jolie Holland. Her songs and voice remind me of Madeleine Peyroux, but the later got a smokier voice not so far from early Billie Holliday. Perfect to begin the day

And now I have to read a story from Kwang-T'se and then I'm finished:
Yun Kiang, rambling to the East, having been borne along on a gentle breeze, suddenly encountered Hung Mung, who was rambling about, slapping his buttocks and hopping like a bird. Amazed at the sight, Yun Kiang stood reverentially and said to the other," Venerable Sir, who are you? and why are you doing this?" Hung Mung went on slapping his buttocks and hopping like a bird, but replied, "I'm enjoying myself." Yun Kiang said, "I wish to ask you a question." Hung Mung lifted up his head, looked at the stranger, and said, "Pooh!" Yun Kiang, however, continued, "The breath of heaven is out of harmony; the breath of earth is bound up; the six elemental influences do not act in concord; the four seasons do not observe their proper times. Now I wish to blend together the essential qualities of those six influences in order to nourish all living things. How shall I go about it?" Hung Mung slapped his buttocks, hopped about, and shook his head, saying, "I do not know! I do not know!"

Just played "bamnan and slivercork" by Midlake, quite good at first listening, somewhere between Grandaddy and Mercury Rev. Now playing in my headphones LCD Soundsystem, the album. James Murphy, LCD's mainman, is also DFA label boss which I've not discovered through their famous copilation, but through Black Dice's masterpiece "Beaches and Canyons". Very enjoyable. A double cd for that album contains a bonus cd with every former a- and b-sides of the band. This for 13 euro, yes, I couldn't help it

I love that song, it's specially great when you have to get up and go working, but you don't want to.
Broken Social Scene

Now quite enjoying (first listening) "You forgot it in people" by Broken Social Scene, some kinda super Canadian group with musicians from Stars, A Silver Mt. Zion and Do Make Say Think, so around ten people there. Leslie Feist aka Feist is among them. Except for Stars, those bands ain't known to be songwriters, yep they decided to be so this time, and sometimes it reminds me of the shoegazers period, but here with much more sound texture and variations. There's something classy in that music.

I'm now listening to dEUS; great tracks they've made with so many instruments and chaotic but very good compositions.. whatever happened to them? just like so many belgian musicians you don't hear much after a while...
And i'm listening to Emiliana Torrini right now.
