Listening to Scarlet's Walk, god I love this album....

Also listened to Blue Skies the other day for the first time in about 7 years, not quite as hideous as I once thought it to be...

If she's developed on stage personas then she's gonna have trouble singing with her head shoved that far up her ass, let alone see the piano keys (that's if she's bothering to play one on tour....) What is she now, Marilyn Amos or Tori Manson?

Hey! That is a really rude way to insult her talent. She's been playing FAR long enough to play the piano without seeing the keys.

I'm having to laugh about the whole thing now because depsite a glimmer of hope from the lyrics I just know it's going to be ghastly, unless there is divine intervention of some sort

Interestingly I found my copy of Q with Tori, PJ and Bjork on the cover from 1994 (by chance it also has Q's review of ASCHE, 3/5 and says it is lacking in toe tappers - FOOLS). Interesting interview, also an interesting quote from Tori in the news section wondering if anyone else has spent their day making up imaginary ice cream flavours, like telephone and chicken...which of course sounds positively balanced compared to the Ms Wiggy Shoe Queen of 2007. Wonder if she's borrowing wigs from Stina?

I think 'Scarlet's Walk' has slowly but surely become a huge fan favourite, judging from the boards. For me it shares equal-first place now with Pele, they're like the twin pinnacles of Demon-Tori and Mellow-Tori.

I love Blue Skies! It's so joyful but the way she sings some of the lyrics is positively sinister. I keep thinking it's being sung by a demented serial killer as she drives away from the scene of her latest killing. She's just offed this boy in this desert and she's on a high. Try listening to it with that scenario in mind and tell me it doesn't make you laugh.

Seriously. What makes the whole thing even more lame is that you KNOW it 's just an excuse to go shopping for a whole load of new designer clothes, and she's wearing wigs because she has no hair left. Did you see that photo that was up on Matty's myspace page a while back, taken during the recording of this album? Just him and Tori sitting in the studio during a session. Her hair was in a terrible state, she looked oddly reminiscent of Bette Davis as Elizabeth 1st.






The photo was swiftly taken down. I'm sure she's come up with this whole wig thing just to give her own hair a chance to recover, and when a personal insecurity like that is feeding her 'artistic concepts', you know she's in trouble.

Another couple of fan reviews have appeared in the past couple of days and both were very positive, echoing the sentiments of the first one that it's very much a rocking-out album. Trouble is, as I said before, it's hard to judge how accurate such reviews are because music is such a subjective thing anyway, and different Tori fans like different things. I remember there were a lot of postive reviews of TBK at first, then people realised it was really pretty subpar.

There was a mass email campaign on @ back at the beginning of the year, lots of people got in touch with Q to ask for a reunion feature because T, Bjork and Polly all have new albums coming out this year, and it would be interesting to get them all together again and see how their views have changed after a dozen years in the business. Great idea for a feature, but so far nada from Q, which I think says it all about how much things have changed regarding women in the music business. Back in '93 it was very different.

And the lameness reaches hitherto undreamed of levels: the 'posse' all have their own blogs on myspace.

Ahahaha!! I don't know whether to laugh or DIE.

I think it's very clear that she is, as she said in that Tingen interview, going all out to market this record to teenage girls. That is the only possible explanation for something this embarrassing.

Too be frank, the album cover is horrible. Horrible.

The multiple personalities/identities thing worked for Strange Little Girls, but now it feels old.

I actually think the image improves a bit in full, with the addition of the two other characters to balance it out - the perspective doesn't look so odd - but yes, it's not a great cover. And if it IS a wraparound then you're still only going to get the section of it with three of the characters on the front, which just looks like a really amateur photoshop job.

She did this so much better on 'Strange Little Girls', and for that I think the credit goes to make-up artist Kevin Aucoyn. He was brilliant at what he did - he made her look like 12 different women. Here she just looks very obviously like Tori in different wigs/outfits.

I dunno, however naff it looks to us it might well appeal to the audience she's said she's going for with this record, ie teenage girls. Apparently the look of the photograph is very 'now' in fashion photography, so it might speak to them in a way we just don't get.

She's repeating herself. And it is very annoying! I heard Secret Spell the other day, what a load of pants....

Another track, 'Teenage Hustling' was aired on some radio show yesterday and the boards are generally going ape over it, very positive reaction. I haven't got hold of an mp3 yet so I can't comment, but apparently it's very full-on rock. That seems to be a recurring comment from people who've heard the record, more reviews are turning up all saying basically the same thing - she's rocking it big time on this one.

I'm not convinced, really. The three clips we've heard so far can't be so hugely different to the rest of the album, I'm certain. Although ... it's true to say that you couldn't guage FTCH accurately from 'Jackie's Strength' and 'Northern Lad', or Pele from 'Mr. Zebra' and 'Agent Orange', or TVAB from 'Glory of the 80s' and 'Josephine'. It's possible there's much better stuff on the new record than what we've heard already. Possible.

Another six weeks and we'll know.

I just found a 3:15 supposed "full version" of Big Wheel.

Hmm. doesn't sound very Tori - more like a cliche mainstream adult-contemporary country song?
