it's ... not so good. maybe i've just got such a negative attitude about the whole affair i've got my mind set on hating it, but this isn't doing much for me.

The full 'Big Wheel' track was played on the same radio show - again I haven't been able to listen to it because you need RealPlayer, I'll have to wait for an mp3 to turn up, but I can't see my feeling about this one changing. I like the energy of it, but yes, it's like something Shania Twain would do. It's just not the Tori I found so special.

That doesn't surprise me, really. I've been taking all the 'OMG it's fantastic!' comments with a pinch of salt, because with a lot of fans there are other things factoring into their assessment. I mean, I consider myself a pretty devoted fan of T's music (until TBK, anyway), but I'm not invested in her as a personality. I don't feel a need to believe that everything she does is great, I hear what I hear in the music.

And having now heard 'Teenage Hustling' .... oh dear. This is very bad. I hate all that 'rawk' guitar and the way she sings the embarrassing lyrics.

Well Secret Spell goes for nearly 5 minutes and I bailed with the parachute at around 2. Does her album come with a sick bag?

It's depressing to hear her making music so obviously contrived to fit a market, especially when you know what she's actually capable of as a musician. There seems to be a quite serious insecurity behind this ... I got the same feeling with TBK as well. On that album it was all about 'I may be in my 40s and a mother but I'm still sexy and sassy and gorgeous!', now with ADP it feels like 'I may be in my 40s but I'm still relevant and a rock star and down with the kids!', you know? It's just ... I think she's having a problem with knowing how to be an older woman, quite frankly. She seems to be craving approval and attention in all the wrong places.

I wish she'd just accept that she has something incredible to give, but it's not for the mainstream.

Poor T. I hope she eventually comes back to what she does best.

.....and then you had to stand at the bus-stop for twelve years .......and two came along together.

And neither of them were interesting enough to make me want to get on again.

From the response to Tori's latest music so far I was going to repeat my intention of waiting six months before buying the new album cheaply from my local music stores 'bargain bin' .........however at this rate, I reckon I'm only going to have to wait a couple of months.

No,RobB,it's going to be massive with the kids!

'Massive' maybe compared to Stina's sales but I can't see any future Tori release making much of an impact on the charts or sales wise generally.

I agree with you on that one

I think Tori alienated many of her old school fans with her last album(s).

TBK is still so bad I'll never even consider lifting it up from the bargain bins....

For all Tori fans here are some UK album chart stats for releases up until the end of 2003.

The first figure is its highest position and the second figure is weeks on chart.

'Little Earthquakes' (1992) 14 = 23

'Under The Pink' (1994) 1 = 13

'Boys For Pele' (1996) 2 = 6

'From The Choirgirl Hotel' (1998) 6 = 5

'To Venus And Back' (1999) 22 = 2

'Strange Little Girls' (2001) 16 = 2

'Scarlets Walk' (2002) 26 = 1

'Tales Of A Librarian' (2003) 74 = 1

Perhaps the most significant figures here are the years the albums made the charts.

Seven original studio albums in ten years........maybe if Tori took her time, spaced the albums out to one every five years and made each release an 'event' instead of just churning them out then maybe her releases would be better received.

But with her albums over long and cluttered with too many songs,and with the albums being released too frequently it's not surprising that maybe the novelty has worn off and her work is getting slightly predictable and boring.
