I'm on the hunt for alternatives to 'grandma' and 'nanny'. Some European alternatives, maybe? The Italian is 'nonna' apparently which is too much like nana. What's the French/Dutch/Swedish?

That is a funny title. It reminds me of Kurt Vonnegut's 'Breakfast of Champions', in which one of the characters sees a magazine advertising 'wide-open beavers!' and assumes it's some kind of advanced taxidermy.

Some of the names on that Grandparents list are hysterical. I love 'Grandbotham' .

Actually it might not be that long, conceivably (ha-pun unintended) before I have to start thinking about these names too...

In the Netherlands less then 4% of the people are unemployed. So it's not as bad in some European countries. But I do believe it's best to get a new job before leaving the old one!

In Dutch it would be 'oma'. In Frisian (a language from the North of the Netherlands) it is 'Beppe'.

Mémé in French. In Swedish, hum, actually I don't know, kids usually call their grandparents by their name. Grandma is farmor (dad's mum) or mormor (mum's mum). Swedish is very easy!
