It seems very ironic now doesn't it, that TBK got such good chart placings in a lot of countries. Maybe interest was raised by the release of Tales of a Librarian beforehand? I know most hardcore fans don't like that compilation, but it got extremely positive reviews everywhere and does seem to have garnered some new fans.

No. 11 is pretty good for ADP, Kuhn? It seems to be doing well in Europe (bar the UK with its weird chart rules ).


The more I listen to the album and study the images, the more convinced I am of its valedictory nature. She's referenced all her previous albums in song-type and visual imagery.

Pip (overtly sexual, thigh length boots, warrior woman) = Y Kant Tori Read.

Clyde (emotionally bruised, heart on her sleeve, working her way through disappointments and abuse, finding her voice) = Little Earthquakes/Under The Pink.

Tori (she's holding a cock, people! And standing around with blood running down her leg) = Boys For Pele/From The Choirgirl Hotel.

Santa (sensual, good time girl, the positive side of love and sex) = To Venus And Back.

Isabel (detached, observing, documenting, political) = Scarlet's Walk.


I think she really might be jumping ship altogether with this album, just not in the way we assumed. I think she was talking about moving on from her career in rock music, hence the looking back.

Me neither....I kept turning over for the news even though Tori was on the sofa with another (some fat french) guest right from the start of the show.
At the very end though she played the single which was staged very colourfully.

Incidentally, Woolies are selling the standard AFP album for £9.97 in their stores. Its a wonder HMV can sell any copies in their stores at the prices they charge.

I just watched Tori on the Graham Norton show via excerpts on youtube, and I have to say it was quite funny, particularly when she was instructing a terrified-looking Norton on how to straddle the piano seat, play two keyboards simultaneously, remember which microphone to sing into and look at the right camera.

Nice to see her perform 'Bouncing Off Clouds' too, albeit to a backing tape. The studio audience seemed to love it, which rather surprised me. Could do her sales here some good.

There is an extended 'uncut' edition of Graham Nortons show tonight (Sunday) on BBC2 at 10.30pm.

I wish they'd either let her perform BOC wholly live, or had her miming to the recording. Mixing the two doesn't work at all - a backing tape with live vocals sounds weird, it didn't do the song justice at all, just gave an approximation of the feel. It seemed more disco-y there than it is on the record.

She seemed more relaxed there than she's looked on previous live telly performances for this album, though. Maybe she's finally growing into that ridiculous wig.

Funny, how things can seem so twisted when it comes down to musical taste. I've been quite fond of The Beekeeper for a while now. Songs like 'Goodbye Pisces', 'The Power Of Orange Knickers' and many, many other tracks of that album are among the best songs that Tori has created in my opinion. I just adore the rythmn and soul influences that you can hear in the songs.

I've given American Doll Posse a few spins.... but nothing is happening. There's not one track that I really like. I'm really hoping that I'll change my mind like I did with The Beekeeper. But so far.... not so good.

Second week after its release and ADP has dropped out of the top 75 UK album charts.
No doubt overall worldwide sales will have made the project financially worthwhile but I doubt she's made much out of the UK market.

I think the decline in Tori's sales in the UK has been a trend for several years now, which probably explains why she no longer does as much promo here - only three gigs this tour, a couple of tv/radio appearances. I'm sure the special edition of ADP probably bumped her sales up a bit, but not enough to make it financially worth her while putting much effort into the UK market.

I still really like the songs I originally liked off that album - Sleeps With Butterflies, Mother Revolution, Witness, Sweet The Sting, Martha's Foolish Ginger, Jamaica Inn. I made those into a little ep and still play it often, two years later. And of course, the title track and Garlands are up there with my all-time favourite Tori songs.

Maybe it'll grow on you, Paul - initially I was really thrown by how straightforwardly pop/rock it is, not what I was hoping for at all, but once I let go of my expectations and just took it for what it is I found it really grew. I'm playing my edited version every day in fact, I'm enjoying it a lot. The only track I actively dislike is 'Secret Spell', and I tend to leave off the interludes apart from 'Programable Soda'.

Programmable Soda still isn't getting my knickers flying, of all the interludes I adore Devils And Gods, and I wish she had made this a much longer track, it is just too short as it is.

You Can Bring Your Dog is my favourite at the moment still, that and Digital Ghost. The album I must admit is full of little surprises that grow very nicely into bigger ones!

She was fabulous on Letterman doing Big Wheel, I love the sound of it live with the heavier guitars.

I'm dying to see this album performed live!!!! Got all of my fingers and toes crossed she comes to Adelaide!!!!

Maybe that would work for me with a couple of songs of American Doll Posse in the future. I'm sure that some songs will eventually grow on me.... I'm still putting the record on every day. But that's more out of frustration because I can't believe I don't like it.

Someone on @ has done a little remix of this interlude, basically just repeating the first stanza and putting a beat under it, but I think I like it better than the original:

My favourite live 'Crucify' is still the 53-hour long one from the Scarlet tour, that everyone else moans about. I. HAVE. CRAWLED. MY. WAY. BACK. Love it love it love it.

I think I'm the only person in the whole of Toridom who also adores the looooonnngggg solo-Hammond 'Beekeeper' from the OS tour, as well.
