There's been a lot of fuss i've noticed on the Tori forums about the use of guitars on the forthcoming album but as Mike Oldfield so naturally proved, you can make the guitar sound quite christmassy and in keeping with winter related themes.

Its not the guitars that are the problem,its the way they are played.

Yes, this is why there's such a fuss on the boards, Rob - a lot of us just really can't stand the way her husband plays, and suspect that he's there because he's 'Husband', not because he's actually a good guitar player. I think of all the issues that the fanbase has with Tori in recent years, 'Husband' is one of the biggest.

He's such a cliched player. Listen to the electric guitar on any of the last three albums and you'll cringe at how lame it is. People realise now what an awesome guitarist Caton was, his contributions on the older stuff are so atmospheric and strange compared to what Husband does.

I think people were just delighted when the first details about Midwinter Graces came out, from Tori herself, mentioning strings, brass, timpani and harpsichord. People assumed that meant no band, so when the press release stated last week that Matty, Jon and Husband were indeed involved, the disappointment and frustration were palpable on the boards. Tori seems incapable of doing anything without the band these days.

Bit like when Joni Mitchell got married,her hubby (BASTARD!....whoops,sorry about that,don't know what came over me there ) was an average-Joe rawk guitarist and rather spoilt her next three-four albums.

How very interesting. Tori is a massive Joni fan. Maybe she's unconsciously following the path laid down by her heroine!

I hope Joni eventually got rid, did she? What is it with these amazing, gifted, powerful women letting the men they sleep with ruin their music? Is it some weird version of those amazing, gifted, powerful businessmen who like to go to a dominatrix and get smacked around?

Er,dunno,I think they did agree to differ but he's actually come back to produce her last few Joni+orchestra CDs,and she has a lot of respect for him,apparently.I haven't followed the ins-and-outs at all.

Thankfully Kate Bush hasn't allowed her partner,guitarist Danny McIntosh, to have an adverse effect on her music.

Aha, tell me about it. I seem to be missing those rose-tinted spectacles that most other women seem to be issued with at some point, that turn perfectly awful men into ones deemed worthy of love. In particular this 'bad boy' attraction thing has always mystified me. Maybe it's because I grew up as the product of that sort of relationship, but I don't see the attraction at all.

Tori has said that in the past she was drawn to men who dominated her, and she felt she'd broken that pattern with Husband. I suspect those kinds of patterns are harder to break than people realise, though ....

No, although honestly I feel that Del has had way too much of an influence on how her records sound. Even long after they broke up as romantic partners! I was more than ever convinced of this when I listened to his own album.

Leaving her personal vanity out of it, I think the very obvious air-brushing in these two pics is meant to make the images look like those cheesy religious paintings that hang on the walls of many Christian homes. She loves bothering Christians, and I guess a Christmas album is a perfect place to do it.

I also think she's totally ripping it out of 'Tori Amos, Quasi-Religious Icon'. She's been consistently pointing up the separation between 'Tori' and herself for some time now in her art, and in her interviews.

I think it's a real shame that the Botox/surgery/photo-shopping issues are obscuring this underlying provocative humour in what she's doing. If she still looked like her old self and was putting these images out, it would be easier to get the point.

She's really having fun with this ....

Apparently the CD/DVD version of the album will contain two bonus songs, 'Comfort and Joy' which I assume is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht (sung in English rather than German, but a direct translation of the original German carol).

I'm still holding out hope for 'A Couture Christmas with Tori' on the DVD, wherein T takes us on an epic tour of her wardrobe and shoe collection. What says 'Christmas' more than posh frocks and fab shoes, after all.
