Rediscovered the debut album of Portishead. I love it when you fall in love again with an older record that you haven't listened to in ages.

I tried to listen to the second Portishead album again too, but that album is still such a turn-off. I really dislike it.

Longtime not posted around here for I found a temporary job ("security guy" for the biggest cultural center here in Brussels) and I'm rather tired, if surrounded by some fine masterpieces.

Right now quite enjoying "Burn, Piano Island, Burn" by The Blood Brothers. I think I prefer the later "Crimes", at the same time more accessible and more genuine. Great band anyway!

I'm currently listening to Rufus Wainwright's Want One and Want Two. I just recently discovered his music but I really like his voice and the full orchestral music.

Also he reminded me a bit of Jeff Buckley so I listend to Grace again too. That is such a beautiful album.

While reading "Various Positions", a Leonard Cohen's brilliant biography, I'm of course listening to Cohen near entire catalogue. Now playing "Death of a Ladies' Man", infamously produced by Phil Spector. My favourite is still "New Skin for The Old Ceremony", that guy is lyrically a genius, and on his first four studio albums he showed himself a brilliant composer as well.

And Paul, If you dig Rufus Wainwright, you may try "Poses" and my favourite of all the first untitled one, quite slow and melancholic but gorgeous and with some lushy Van Dyke Parks arrangements, besides the very fact it was produced by Jon Brion, more well known for producing Fiona Apple and writing music for "Magnolia" and "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind". But furthermore, you should not miss the absolutely brilliant Andrew Bird and his two last albums "Weather Systems" and "The Mysterious Production of Eggs", the guy is maybe even more brilliant than Wainwright and with a little more humility in his interpretation.

Sorry for being so absent around here those days, but my job is taking much of my time and energy, although I quite like it. I'm surrounded by paintings, sculptures, art, art, art. A contemplative job to say the least

Thanks Christian. I will definitely check the earlier work of Rufus out as soon as I am done with these two albums, that will take a little while.

Anyone here heard Andrew & The Johnsons. Everyone says it's lovely but I think he sounds like Boy George dressed up like a woman with a shrimp in his throat. [:xx]

Right now, P Gabriel best of. OK guy really.
Most played CD lately, the new Transjoik. Uneven CD, but some great stuff, maybe, actually probably, not ot everybody's taste. But it grabs me.
Latest discovery: Lucien Dubuis. A young Swiss blower (alto sax, bass and contrabass clarinets). No holding back, he really goes in in the music. Discovered him at the latest Cully Jazz Festival. Unfortunately, the sound was really crap (he did agree to that, and said that the sound engineer really fucked up the sound-check, although not in those terms). That evening at Cully, Julien Loureau was first off. Interesting at times, a bit surfing the trendy effect-box wave (which was linked to one of the 2 mixes he was using). But, God, the music was spoiled by the poor mix, the drums just overkilling, drowning both guitar and bass, even painful to my ears. Really, a shame.

Spook, have you heard the latest Dahl/Andersen/Heral? Supposed to be superb.
