Desire Avenue

Some of you may have noticed this band of singer Shara Worden, since I'd already put up the video of 'dragonfly' in the must/see/hear thread. Last night I went to their concert here in Rotterdam and I must say it was very, very impressive! Definitely worth going to when she's coming to your town! I'd brought two friends who hadn't heard of her and they were equally impressed. My one friend said it reminded her of Kate Bush, while she also agreed that it had some similarities to Coco Rosie. So it's somewhere in between there, a bit more dramatic and more guitarry.
The most impressive was her stage performance, really knowing what she was doing, especially with her voice as well. She's really going to all ends with it and she even did some beatboxing type of thing with it . Also really a warm personality and making jokes about how she pulled the plug of the bassplayer with her own guitar and in the beginning when she lost a snare she put a new one back one in while the guys played a 'cool' bossanova .
Besides playing pretty much the whole latest album we also heard a new song and some covers, which were done very well: a song of Edith Piaff, Somewhere over the Rainbow (made me melt ), a Roy Orbison song and another one...

I really liked that track you put up.

I'd actually just heard of her via a quote from her about Tori - she was asked about artists who inspired her and said some very complimentary things about our Miss T.

I can definitely see the Kate influence in that track, although the artist herself says that she hardly knows Kate's work, and attributes what people hear as a Kate influence to Tori.

Yes,I really liked that song you put up; I was more interested in the voice,which has a roundedness not often found in pop/rock singers.I went and had alook at her website-interesting musical progeny.
