Yep,the dreaded C word...........Christmas,its only two months away now and i'm already having A4 sheets of 'Christmas List' (ie prezzie wants) paper shoved into my hands by the kids.

I wouldn't mind so much but the lines are narrow and they've even continued the list on the other side.

Can we go from Novemeber 30th to January 1st please?

Yep,the decorations have been up for a week in Bristol and Bath,and it's not even Hallowe'en yet.
Meanwhile my son had his 12th birthday on Thursday.
Top of his birthday list was 'Macbook Pro laptop' * (RRP approx £1500)
When I was his age I was lucky to get a bag of sweets and a clip round the ear'ole,I don't know,the youth of.. (etc etc)
* (He didn't get it,btw)

children are just too spoiled these days. But it was really strange when i was shopping for outdoor plants three weeks ago that half the garden center had already been turned into christmas shopping; who'd want to buy that stuff already? I think they indeed should wait until after halloween... (and for the netherlands, even after St. Nicholas, which is our main gift giving celebration)

although i do like the winter holidays (and agree they shouldn't be decorated for at least until early December), it's sick how commercialized Christmas (and every holiday, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's Day, etc.) has become. there's even greeting cards for halloween here now, it's rediculous.

I've certainly noticed this year that Halloween in particular has become far more commercialized than in previous years.
My partners kids (well,the youngest two anyway) want to go out 'trick or treating' but they've effectively been banned from doing so. Apart from the dangers associated with the dark evenings now,they've been told they will not be allowed to go out begging.....or threatening.

As for Christmas,well (as standard) the first Christmas cards were on the shop shelves in the first week of September.

.....and don't talk to me about prezzie lists. The eldest kid produced an A4 sheet of paper with a huge list of wanted Christmas presents.
One of them was a dvd of 'The Hole' so this I bought last week.
Yesterday afternoon she wenty shopping and bought the dvd herself.

Whats the point in writing a list two months in advance and then go out and buy items off the list herself in the meantime?

One of the local garden centres here is currently selling 'fashionable' artificial Christmas trees - black with hot pink decorations in the form of 'sexy' underwear.

I feel compelled to write to The Times.

No, seriously. I am old and curmudgeonly and I feel I need to vent my sense of outrage that people are celebrating the birth of Christ with underwear decorations.

man, everytime i see this topic in the 'new posts' i'm thinking it's about Stina's new album coming out in two months time
wouldn't that be a great christmas gift

I feel somewhat dissapointed. I thought that Stina's new album was going to come out in 2 months time! But now...I see your talking about Christmas...bah humbug!
