Desire Avenue

Stina will get airplay on my new radio show called "Scan" one of the only shows in the UK that only plays Scandinavian music. I don't think there is another one - but I'll say that, just to be safe.

It's on Siren FM, a local Lincoln radio station and but can be heard to people outside Lincoln through their website (live).

Once the show is up and running... I'll tell you the date and time. (It's at the pilot 30 minute recording stage) It's likely to be around 10pm weekdays.

I just thought I'd let you that I'm spreading the word.

That's why I've been away for a while, (that and have tons of work) I've been planning this show...which will showcase my favourite Scandinavian music. Especially music that's never been played in the UK before.

I'm working on my voice at the moment and I'm trying to buy as much music as possible.

I am by the way going to be quite picky, so the show won't have every Scandinavian artist, just the most diverse and different ones. It's going to be unusual, highly informative and very open minded with a wide range of music, I've been given this freedom on the show because the show is late at night, it is a unique idea and is a subject that no-one in the studio knows about.

And will you be inclusive of Sibelius,Jan Garbarek,Supersilent,Carl Nielsen,Terje Rypdal etc? Or does 'Scandinavian artists' only extend to rock and pop?

and no Abba, nooo way, you''ll have to bribe me alot of money for me to play them. The idea of the show is to make a point to people who don't listen to Scandinavian music, that there is more to the music than Abba and... Aqua. Plus I also want to play music that's very unusual and different.

I'm definitely going to play Anna, because she is one of my favourite artists, she is also very important to the growth of modern Scandinavian music. Her songs are so brilliant, how can I not play her?

I can't believe I missed her gig in London last week, when she was a supporting act. I do have Anna Ternheim newsletter yet they can't tell me when she's got a gig in London.

After just listening to Husky Rescue... I've gotta say I really like them, they've got a nice style about them. It has depth and intelligent songwriting. I like the horror movie sound of the track "Hurricane".

Great suggestion, they've won me over. I'll add them to my list of artists that I will play on my show.

If you want to play music that's 'unusual and different',not to mention 'intelligent' you should try Supersilent.They've made nine albums now,at least one of which (Six) is a classic,and they're part of a very interesting Scandinavian scene based round their record label.
But then 'unusual and different' is pretty relative.I can't hear very much that's unusual or different about Emiliana Torrini,for instance.

In terms of Bjork, I'm going to play album tracks.

One artist I'd love to play because she fits in with the music is Emilie Simon, it's a shame she's not Scandinavian.

I'll check out Supersilent. If they're good enough I shall put them on the show.

I think Emiliana Torrini is a fantastic artist and has one of the best Scandinavian voices, so I was never going to leave her out of the show. I think the way she composes her triphop sound in "Love In The Time Of Science" was pretty original especially tracks "Dead Things" (answering machine tone track), "Wednesday's Child", "Telepathy" (Blade runner sci-fi music), and "Tuna Fish".

Well I hadn't heard anything like it before.

Mum are rather good you could play them, or Hafdis Huld. You should play Abba though, because they are brilliant, perhaps play something unexpected such as 'another town another train' or 'the day before you came'

You can hear the show completely live on the internet at sirenonline.co.uk.

It has been commissioned and will start in January 2008. It will be on Wednesdays at about 8.00

I'll tell you more when it's actually confirmed.

Any suggestions on what would be the perfect song to introduce Stina?

Should I start with tracks from her latest album "The World Is Saved" or go back to the very beginning with "MOAC" or play tracks from her most popular release and critically successful "ASCHE"?

On my 40 minute pilot show (for the programming team to listen to) - I played "Get On With Your Life".
