So, let's bring this all time favorite thread back to life, huh?
I'm looking forward for two Laura Veirs gigs in Athens in March 18 & 19, wonder how she would be like playing live...
And she'll play in the same venue that i'll play in April!

I saw Sarah Blasko last night at Fowlers Live in Adelaide, check out her website as I think some people here might really really like her (think a mix of emiliana torrini, fiona apple and sarah slean).

She's only been released in Australia so far, but she has done a few dates in London and New York...

Last friday, I went to see Supersilent here in Brussels and it was magnificent, those guys are geniuses, at least together. The trumpeter and eventually vocalist Arve Henriksen stole the show, that guy is getting big big big! Compared to the gig of last year in Hasselt, this one was quite more noisy and polyrhythmic with, for the first time, some spoken words improvised by Arve for a very worrying effect. Two friends accompanied me, one of them totally ignorant of how they sound like, they both stayed abashed for a moment after the end of the gig.
Unfortunately, the place wasn't full at all, a shame for such a gigantic and brilliant band, really.

On a synchronistic and otherwise similar footing as Spook,I went to see Iain Ballamy and Stian Carstensen on Friday night.I've heard Iain lots-and played with him on a few occasions-but Stian Carstensen was new to me live-and a revelation!! A stunning performer who can do seemingly anything on accordion.
Plus at some points he scat-sung,whistled and even played some demonic Kentucky banjo flawlessly.
Together they were tremendous.That's musicianship...
Also less than half-full auditorium...what a shame,a brilliant gig.

I saw Stian Carstensen with cellist Ernst Reijseger about three years ago, well it was rather Reijseger with Carstensen in a way, but I was very impressed by Carstensen and his extremely virtuosic but fine musicianship. Reijseger being himself a master of his instrument AND a funny guy (Mengelberg-Bennink school), Carstensen looked like he was having some kind of "first flight", he was sometimes very puzzled by Reijseger quite clownesque behaviour [:o] .
It looks like Iain Ballamy gets his career slightly whipped through that Norvegian connection, he totally deserves it indeed.

Joanna Newsom with White Magic (unknown to me) and Six Organs of Admittance in Paris, at L'European, on Wednesday, April 20th. But I suppose you know it. Six Organs of Admittance aka Ben Chasny is a must-see and mostly a must-hear, one of the finest guitarist this side of John Fahey, so quite introspective in a way, so being his own alter-ego for Chasny is illuminating the mighty and loud Comets On Fire .

I saw Wende (
http://www.wende.nu) a dutch female artist doing a VERY powerful performance in a very small venue. loved it. She's doing some classic french chansons (Brel, Piaf, Barbara) in her very own way. If you have the chance to see her (in the Netherlands) --> don't miss it!

It was a nice show indeed, plenty of people came by, made good money for a first show and got some good reviews, hehe!
