Bah humbug.

I spent four hours today in Stoke Mandeville hospital waiting around for my cast to be taken off, then waiting some more to have X-rays done, then waiting again to see a doctor, then waiting even more to see the physio, all the while surrounded by what seemed like hundreds of people with broken or otherwise trolleyed hands. Some Valentine's day.

Hope those of you with more interesting and rewarding things to do had a good day.

Something I read today said that Valentines Day is used as a plot to make ordinarily happy single people feel lonesome,which I can really sympathise with.
It's horrible being the schoolkid who doesn't get the Valentines.

I enjoyed a very nice Valentines Day with Kate,although having the kids with us (they're on half-term hols) made it more of a 'family day' than a 'romantic day'.

(Or did he visit the Hospital when you worked there?) He is a weird guy,you have to remember that he worked down the pit for years before fame and fortune and 'ladies' and cigars and flash cars took over.I have to say,I've always found him decidedly creepy.

Yeah, he's actually a pretty frequent visitor to the hospital - the amount of money he's helped to raise over the years is absolutely phenomenal, so he's basically welcome any time. He used to do voluntary work there actually, though he's cut that back as he's gotten really ancient.

The thing I find slightly weird about him is that he's *exactly* the same when you meet him in ordinary circumstances as he is on telly. He's either the most natural or the most horrendously phoney person ever, I can't decide which.

He does have a kind of 'dodgy uncle' vibe in real life too.

Still,look on the bright side Withcy,at least you've got boys who are going to cause you a whole lot less trouble when they become teenagers than stroppy daughters would have.

Oh, and in my experience, the male of the species can be every bit as stroppy as the female, whatever the age.

Now,to be fair,I didn't say that.You're putting words into my post. What I wrote was that they are 'a whole lot less trouble' and not that they weren't any trouble at all. All kids,whatever their sex,can cause problems and are a worry to their parents......................just girls more so.

Tell that to parents of boys in trouble with the law, or running around getting girls up the duff every five minutes. or doing drugs or running with gangs or stabbing people for looking at them the wrong way. You can't generalise in that way, Rob - some kids of either sex will be a lot of trouble in their teens and some won't. It's nothing to do with their gender, it's to do with their upbringing and individual character. The idea that 'girls are more trouble than boys' is just a sexist generalisation reflecting the tendency of society to be more tolerant of bad behaviour in males than in females.
