Stina's songs missing in action!

Post by RobB »

Just want to highlight again those three songs, supposedly written by Stina, which were logged with the BMI company in the US in the mid-nineties.
The songs were:
Changing Fortunes Of Suzanne D
In The Middle Of July
Real Life.
Was there ever a conclusion to the mystery regarding these songs? :)

The person who discovered that info (I rescued the bit of thread from the ashes of the Barbieboard) was more specific about the date of the songs,'circa 1993'.
BMI (whose website,www.bmi.com, doesn't seem to be working :?: ) is (one of) the American equivalent(s) of PRS in this country, along with ASCAP.
From Wikipedia-
'BMI tracks public performances 6.5 million works and collects and distributes licensing revenues for those performances as royalties to over 350,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers it represents, and thousands of creators around the world who have chosen BMI for representation in the U.S.'

Which suggests that Stina/or her management/or publishing company in Europe, wanted to clear those songs for potential performance/broadcast probably in the US.So perhaps they're outtakes from ASCHE??

Some more rarities from the Swedish National Archive of Broadcasting -

'UMEA JAZZFESTIVAL 1989 (broadcast on Swedish Radio 2 in 1989-in Swedish Nat Archive of Recorded Sound and Moving Images)
Stina Nordenstam with Ensemble 'Encore' .
His Song/She bought a rope/San Telmo/In Distance/Recharge/Whisky at Samiento
(The UMEA Jazz festival took place on 4th November 1989 )

(This database also allegedly contains a broadcast video 'Showtime' which includes Stina).

And the by now largely discredited rumour put about by somebody on an old messageboard, that Stina allegedly took part in these (completely untraceable) recordings:-

(with Magnus Shoval)-Tjaer stjomar (Icelandic folksong),in album 'Jag er vagan' 1993 Ranerop records.
(with Sasha Erikson)-Sad Lullaby/Down by the seaside,in album 'Never see it coming' 1992 Enigmatic  records.

If anyone finds any trace of those two, please wake me up.

I believe in your smile everyday
But I know that you're far from my way
When I talk to the moon I can hear you
In the dark I can see, I can feel your light

It is very strange that had the artist/album existed that there wouldn't have been more references to Sasha Erikson & 'Never See It Coming' on the internet. Especially after sixteen years. :(
Even allowing for mis-spelling of the artists name,no amount of permutation of names/song titles throws up any info in Google. It does seem then that it was just a hoax that never existed beyond the Stina's forums.

I am surprised though that the CQD team didn't step in to squash the hoax from the start though. Surely they would have known? :?

I think Magnus Shoval's 'Jag Er Vaganm' was a four track single as opposed to being an album.

Wow,now there's a gig I'd like to have attended, two of my favourite singers, albeit a bit before either of them was at their best. And Mr.Persson is an excellent pianist, witness his various solos on versions of 'His Song'.

And I think that's a hoax too,I've tried Googling every permutation of his/the album/the record company's name.

Just been looking at the old CQD Discography and its rather telling what they don't list as opposed to what they do. :(

Follow this link and click on 'Collaborations'.

We can say for sure that stina participated with Magnus Shoval. I remembered that she commented on the barbieboard that she had completely forgotten about the collaboration. With that comment she confirmed that the collaboration took place.
