Mine was Wings at the Empire Pool,Wembley (London) in October 1976.

The Cure in Liévin, even the singer from the opening band (The Cranes) was sick so he replaced him (her?). And at the time The Cure had great musicians, so I still remember this gig as one of my best one.

The fabulous Orange Juice, at my local Civic Centre. It was around the time 'Rip It Up' had been in the charts, so when was that?

Funny how all the male vocalists from that early eighties period sounded so alike though?

Lenny Kravitz in Ahoy in Rotterdam. Somewhere around the time that Are You Gonna Go My Way was released.

As a budding young musician,I went to a fair few classical concerts at the age of 12 or so because I was at school in Croydon and the Fairfield Halls were just down the road.I particularly remember one where someone played Messiaen on the organ-I was knocked out by the music,and I also had the visual accompaniment of the organ's swellbox,mounted on the wall of the Fairfield Hall,opening and closing dramatically to release the amazing sounds.
I saw David Bowie and ELP at a Friends of the Earth gig in c. 1971/2,Bowie in the Hunky Dory era just before he got famous.(Later on in the punk era I saw The Police and The Stranglers among others,before they got famous) .That might have been my first rock gig,but around about the same time my older brother was social secretary at Warwick Uni,and I used to go up and visit him and he'd get me into loads of gigs he'd put on-I dimly remember such long-forgotten acts as Barclay James Harvest (simply dreadful),Curved Air,Jack the Lad etc,most of which I saw in an alcoholic and marijuanic haze which I couldn't really handle at the tender age of 15 or so.But he also got me into some fantastic jazz gigs-my first jazz gigs-which were far more memorable,people like John Surman,Alan Skidmore in their prime.
And in 1976,I did my first gig,in York.

Ahhh it was My Bloody Valentine back in 1991 or 1992 at Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I was under age and had the time of my life. I also drank quite a bit of cider and was sick as a a dog all weekend

I think John Surman with a French guy playing asx and flute was my first concert, at la Maison de la Radio in Paris. Free. Most memorable, maybe Jan Garbarek with his Officium setting in Liverpool, because of the place and acoustics! Worst, maybe also Garbarek, with the same vocal ensemble, in Geneva. We almost fell asleep! In between, many great jazz/folk concerts in Sweden, with top notch Scandinavian musicians!
