I have a large jam jar full of 'silver' change but having found 134 20p pieces,not one of them was without a date.

Actually,it was electricity meters but emptying pre-payment meters was one area I didn't get into thankfully.

but seriously,some buskers could cash in on that.
I haven't busked since the mid-late 90s,but I remember going out a few times just after the £1 coin was issued (whenever that was) and getting a lot of those coins just because many people habitually give you whatever small amount of loose change they have in their pocket.A pound back then still felt like quite a bit of money.
The most exciting bit of busking was often counting the cash into heaps afterwards.In the 90s I was part of a great streetband which used to draw big crowds whenever we played in Bath etc,and we'd come back with a LOT of cash to sort out and heap up and count. Much more fun than taking it into one of those German banks which have those machines which sort it all out and tally it for you.

I had my hands on one of these today at work! I actually wouldn't have noticed it myself, a customer was paying with it and she suddenly said ooh, I wonder if that's one of those new ones without the date? She'd actually given it to me and I saw it was indeed the dateless coin, I tried to persuade her it wasn't but she was a sharp bugger.

She asked for it back and gave me an old one instead. DAMN!!! [censor]

It wasn't the same woman who found the winning lottery ticket and spent half of it,was it?
