'Memories Of A Color' (video extract)

Post by RobB »

I can't remember if the 'Memories Of A Color' video link has been posted here before but even if it has,its worth highlighting again as its pretty rare and it does show the earliest known footage of Stina which presumably even pre-dates the 'One For My Baby (State opening of Paliament) performance on 1st October 1991.

Just watched this clip again and noticed how footage from the albums cover shoot is integrated into the video. Also, its interesting to note how similar this video is to the promotional film for 'Circus',made ten years later.

Its a great pity that the full version has never made it onto the internet. :(

Yes, somebody somewhere must have a full version.
Likewise the video Stina made for Souls' 'Expensive'-can't find hide nor hair of it (there is, confusingly, a Spanish band called Expensive Souls, so if you Google around for it, you keeping getting them). :D

There's also, apparently a video interview with Stina from ‘The Big E’ (LWT and Europe, 1992-1995). Dunno if that's the same as the one shown on MTV where the woman can't pronounce her name.

I guess this must be the actual band:

2. Souls was a Swedish noisy but poppy band from the 90’s. Composed of

Cecilia Nordlund on vocals and guitar
Andreas Grevsten Danielsson on guitar
Johan Freitholtz on bass
Bo-Peter Andersson on drums

Steve Albini came over to Sweden to record their 1994 debut album, Tjitchischtsiy (Sudêk). Steve used his usual technique with lots of mics placed to capture not only the instruments but also the reverberation of the room, especially on Bo-Peters drums. Cecilia sings her very personal songs, usually quietly in the verses and almost screaming in the choruses. Fredrik Norberg from Popsicle sings backup vocals on Ladybird. Many of their songs use unusual time signatures executed with precision by Bo-Peter, Johan and Andreas. In total they play a very poppy, but noisy rock with odd rythms and a lot of dynamic.

For their second album they tried recording with Steve Albini again, but they where not happy with the result and they ended up just using the first two songs on the album from that session. They replaced Bo-Peter with Lego and recorded they rest of the songs with Nille Perned in Sweden. The result was Fish, Bird or Inbetween which was released in 1996.

They were at their time one of the best live acts in Sweden, very fun to watch with Cecilias extreme energy on stage, and a very heavy sound. Eventually they broke up and went their seperate ways. Andreas and Johan had a small side project called Brudjävlar. Cecilia made the very polular song “Adios Amigos” with Marit Bergman. Eventually Cecilia and Johan started a new band called Monkeystrikes.

I guess Stina's connection with the group is via Fredrik Norberg of Popsicle, the band who played on the And She Closed Her Eyes album?

'Expensive' was a 1996 single taken from the groups third album, 'Bird,Fish or Inbetween' and by all counts they weren't too happy with the video !!!

Wow, never heard of this band until tonight! Listening to it right now (the "Albini" album), it's pretty good & interesting.
