I've been away for a while but I have news, it might be minor but any news regarding Stina's music should be highlighted and considered.

Her music is still alive and being remembered thanks to Gideon Coe.

Last Monday he hosted a show on BBC digital radio channel 6 Music about music from mainland Europe and looking at the playlist it seems too good to be true.

He played Stina's "Fireworks" and if that wasn't enough for me, he also manage to play other favourites of mine: The Knife, Air, SoKo and Múm were also played.

It's the first time I've ever heard Stina played on UK radio. It got me excited, I had to tell someone and my friends don't care/know who she is/or what impact it makes, so I thought I'd share here, if that's okay.

I don't listen to the radio except Radio 3 occasionally,so I wouldn't be likely to find that programme,but even if I did,I certainly wouldn't expect to hear Stina on the radio these days.There was a time when every new Stina release had the boys at Mixing It (Radio 3) and the girls at Late Junction (ditto) getting excited; I remember hearing just about all of This Is several times over on LJ in '01.Those days are gone,alas.
I was listening to 'Butterfly' tonight and thinking that it's criminal,how underrated Stina is,not just by the popular music world,but also by the more serious music critical fraternity.I just can't understand it.

I seldom listen to the radio either apart from occasionally tuning into talk based shows on local radio for the weather and news.

It would be great for Stina to be played on on BBC national radio where maybe a few million were listening but on these more obscure digital BBC radio stations i always think that maybe they have only about 20 people listening.

Unfortunately i think main stream audiences and critics just find Stina's vocal delivery too gimmicky to ever be taken seriously.

6 Music is listened to by a million listeners on average, however that may refer to the drive time and morning shows when it's at it's peak, unfortunately Stina was played on Gideon Coe's night show at around 10pm, so less listeners.

Just the idea of her music being broadcasted excited me, even if it's on digital radio.

I was about to tell my brother and then I realised I'm the only one who cares in my entire neighbourhood.

The station plays alot of rare eclectic music that I only ever hear on there, so I guess if any station in the UK was going to rejuvenate her memory it would be them.

They are the only station in the UK that also play some of my other favs: Emiliana Torrini, Fever Ray, Bjork (more obscure better stuff), Little Dragon and recently First Aid Kit.

It's really an amazing station. I can understand your fear and dissaproval of most stations but 6 Music takes risks and it's likely that it will play your favourite artists, if you give them a chance.

I think this is the first time they've played Stina, it's not because they dislike her voice but because they usually play newer music and the opportunity rose when one day an abundance of people requested her music when finding out that Coe was doing a European addition.

So I give 6 Music praise, any other station would have simply ignored the requests, sweeping them under the couch but 6 Music were brave and proud enough to play it.

Plus their listeners must have brilliant taste to request Stina!

It's irritating that critics and popular music industries ignore her.

Although she isn't completely forgotten by fellow musicians.

If you look at Myspace pages of so many quirky artists like Regina Spektor, they state that Stina is an influence. I'd say she is one of the most frequently name-checked artists under inspiration.

So her memory stays alive through musicians if not critics.

Radiohead are big Stina fans too. They asked her to direct a video for them during the OKC era I think, though nothing came of it.

6Music is the only rock station I occasionally listen to, these days. I agree, good eclectic mix of artists.

My first exposure to Stina was via a late-night radio show, and I became a huge fan. So it does work.

You finnicky lot. I didn't need to hear any music on the radio to know that i'd like it.....all i needed was to see the front cover of 'And She Closed Her Eyes'

Don't forget that Michel Gondry (Bjork, Radiohead, White Stripes) directed the video for "Little Star", so she was contact with the most prolific music video director of our generation. From that she must have got to known quite a few people.

When curious researchers/lovers of music want to know more about Monsieur Gondry after seeing a video of his or a blockbuster film he directed, they'll likely come across a list that includes Stina.

The exposure then continues...

She been unknown to the average joe but within the music industry she is respected, appreciated and gossiped about.

I've told this story so many times but i was just browsing the shelves of my local MVC store and the civer just caught my eye. I think it was just the bright blue tunic that made the cd stand out from all the others on the rach. And there was just something very enigmatic about the way Stina is posed against the run down backdrop and of course the title itself sounds enigmatic in itself. So yeah, after reading the songtitles on the back.....Fireworks,Murder In Mairyland Park, View From The Spire......the album was telling me, demanding me even, 'BUY ME BUY ME' ......so I did and have never had a single regret since.

I can appreciate the importance of hearing an artists work in advance in order to become interested in that artist but sometimes you have to go with gut instincts, that you've discovered something very special musicially even if you havn't even heard it yet.

What I found so disappointing was when Michel Gondry released that compilation dvd of his music promos and 'Little Star' wasn't included.

Well personally I'm rather glad Stina isn't known to the massed ranks of the great unwashed.
