Live gig 1991


Hey all.
I just had a few questions about the live gig (Fasching, Stockholm january 1991) that?s on the specials part of the desire avenue site. Is it all stina on piano (playing those solos???) Who is the band with her?
Does anyone know what she says between songs? Does she just introduce the songs,or is it profound insites into the tunes?
It seems weird to hear her speak in swedish after all her songs are in english. Expected but strange.

This is another reason I dislike what happened to the CQD forum - all this has been discussed before - and the info was available there.

I can answer some of your questions-I did a lot of research into this gig and the slightly earlier Skeppsholmen one.
On the CQD site were many of these answers,as Kuhn said.Before that,the Barbieboard had a transcript of Stina's between-songs chat.Both messageboards are now defunct,alas.
However I have a copy of the transcript which I'll happily copy to you if you PM me with your email.Basically she talks about the songs,makes the odd self-mocking comment etc.What she says about 'The Miracle',the most interesting song,suggests that it's a true story,but I haven't found out anything more
I'm almost certain she isn't playing the piano.Being a jazz pianist myself,I can say that her style is much more of the sort found on 'Clothe yourself for the wind' or 'Sailing'.She may be playing on 'Soon after Christmas'-before which she politely asks the band to leave the stage,but the other tracks have a genuine jazz pianist,name of Anders Persson.How do I know this? On the contemporary Skeppsholmen gig with the same band she does an encore-'Over the rainbow'-and Mr.Persson is announced.He is clearly the same pianist as is found executing the solo on 'His song' both on the live gigs and MOAC.Those are great solos.
Rest of the band-David Wilczewski-sax; Max Schultz-guitar; Christian Spering-Bass; Anders Jormin-Drums; Malkandro Gassama-Percussion;several of whom are on 'MOAC',and most of whom are respected Swedish jazzers.

When i've tried to look back at the topics on CQD i can see only a few, and the archived pages arent working for me.

I'll pm you email straight after this message sound world, thanks for the offer. Have you got set lists or recordings of the Skeppsholmen gig? I've looked but can't find much about the actual gig (none of the sites on a search are in english), though theres been some hot other bands there before!!!

What/ where are the other gigs (Fasching is one of just five???)? I've read something about her playing in london somewhere, but i'd have thought most artsists on there first album releases would have gigged about just to pay the bills, even if they did want to keep a low profile in the commercial world or not view performing as part of their art.

Fasching is one of few KNOWN gigs, I have no idea how many gigs Stina & co did.

Another gig was broadcasted by CQD in Desember 2002 (wasn't it?)

It included a cover of ?Over the Rainbow"!

Maybe we should start a 'known Stina gigs' thread.
She played at the opening of the Swedish Parliament sometime around then.On a Swedish radio website are some details of archive broadcasts they hold,including another contemporaneous one.I'll have to hunt up my research.
She played the Jazz cafe in London c.1992,not a happy experience apparently,and her last known live gig.

Is stina on the radio much in sweden? The only time i've ever heard her in england is on the late junction on bbc radio 3 (how i got into her). even then about once a month!!!

She played at the Hultsfred festival 1991.

On the old Stina Nordenstam mailinglist was the news that she played at a friend's wedding. One members of the mailinglist said he even had an invitation for that wedding but did not attend (with much regret afterwards).

I believe this wedding was around 1998.
This might even have to done something with the start of People are Strange. I remember that Stina started with this record after a friend asked her to do a version of "Treat Me Nice".

Did you once say that a rather special cover sleeve was created by a Stina fan for those that burn the live concert to cd?

I would love to see / have it if you still have a copy!

Nothing too special, really.

News to me, but it could very well be "Treat Me Nice".

V?ronique had artwork available for the Fasching gig tracks. It contained cover and back artwork. I never downloaded it but I'm sure that someone here will have it. Maybe V?ronique herself?
