Desire Avenue

This morning I have been having a bit of a sort out (aka a belated spring clean) and came across a long forgotten school exercise book from 1965 !! Yes,its hard to believe that I had even been born at the time.

Actually, I was six and a half......that's years and not months although judging my scrawl and spelling (its not much better these days either ) the jury might still be out on that one.

Anyway, what caught my eye on this particular page was that it appears I was writing down the name 'Stina' even then! ....even though she wasn't to be born for another few more years. Hmmm.....apparently I've been a fan of Stina's longer than I thought?

Or perhaps I was a fan of Stina Gray? Oh, alright, so I was trying to write Stingray but me speiling let me down. I still got a 'tick' from teacher though.

Other pages incidentally have doodles of the TARDIS so no prizes for guessing what kind of shows I was watching on television back in the mid-1960's.

I was watching those same shows! My favourite was always 'Lost In Space', because the villain (Dr. Zachary Smith) was a far more interesting character than the bland yanks (not to mention a far better actor) and consistently stole the show, along with his robot, which sometimes seemed bi-polar.

But Stingray (which will now forever be 'Stina Gray' ) was a close second. I loved the gravity defying jumps out of the water of Stingray and the Titanical Fish, and of course the gorgeous and enigmatic mermaid 'Marina' ('...Aqua Marina...') who sat at the back of Stingray doing...what?...looking pale and interesting, mostly. Mermaid Liberation still had a while to reach fruition, it seems.

Thanks for sharing your old book, RobB. I'm amazed that you still possess something like that. Other than photos (and my old teddy-bear), I have nothing relating to my early life, but then my family moved house loads of times, and me even more.
