Desire Avenue

Jenny on Holiday (aka Jenny Hollingworth of Let's Eat Grandma) released her debut album,Quicksand Heart, on Friday 9th January. To promote the release Jenny with acoustic guitarist Jacob Berry spent a week visiting indie record shops in the south & east of England. Of the eight shows (in seven days),I attended two, at the Rough Trade shop in Denmark Street,London and at Venus Vinyl in Norwich.

Of the two,Norwich was special. With just 25 or so people in the shop,to stand at floor level about six feet away from the artist,who were performing without any mics or speakers etc, it was amazing to hear music in its purist form. (This was the only performance on tour that wasn't amplified).

Being a modern pop album,Quicksand Heart has been picking up many positive reviews. Its certainly a very enjoyable listen. Quite a few videos from the tour are now appearing on You Tube,I'll see if I can find one that sums up the atmosphere of one of the shows.

Okay,here's the song Appetite,filmed at Banquet Records in Oxford. What I like about this particular show was that Jenny's Let's Eat Grandma band mate,Rosa Walton was there and joined in on five of the nine songs. I wish I had been there.

Thanks Dave,the album has been picking up fairly positive reviews across the board. The Guardian review is behind a pay wall unless you want to be slaughtered by a cookie infestation,but I have seen parts of it elsewhere.

Just a little up date re: my activities with Jenny On Holiday.

Since January I've seen two further JOH shows,in Norwich and London. And now the other half of LEG has a new album out, as Rosa Walton will be releasing her debut solo album,Tell Me Its A Dream, in early June,when I'll be seeing her play a Rough Trade in-store gig in London. I'll also be seeing Rosa perform in London and Norwich in September.

Its amazing to think that Jenny & Rosa were 5 year olds when Stina released her last album !!
