i thought it was for a band... i was wrong. but the question is (after having flicked through it a bit) what is it? what do you make of it? cool or tacky, expression or exploitation?

I think I would brand it "Goth Porn" presented as Kitch.

After all, it seems to be paysite. I does not look as if is done for charity or pure expression.

sums it up. the banners are all over pitchfork and have been for ages. that's why i thought it was some major label punk band being hyped. is it 'for real'???

There's an Italian punk singer called Miss Violetta Beauregarde that I stumbled across on a music mag who is also on this site and says that she makes those pics for a kind of selfdevelopment (?!). I often saw it quoted, but I never visited that site and I don't think about visiting.

I think it could be a weird subculture thing. You know, A Goth Chick thing. "Look at me! I'm so Goth (and nude too if you are willing to pay for a membership)!".

i kinda agree. but i wonder if they're fakes and it's just some porn guy who's hit upon the idea of making more $$$ by hitting the internet savvy indie / goth / metal scene.

why is pitchfork giving it so much ad space?

Yes, it's how they try to sell it. Simple porn is more honest.
