I just got her new album in the mail ( i preordered it and got free postcards, who the hell am i gonna send Fiona postcards to??) and i'm goin got be really honest and admit, on first listen, I'm really not all that impressed.

If you're expecting regular angry emotional Fiona, you'll be disappionted. I applaud her for using a wide array of instruments, it's a totally new sound. I never heard the album off the internet before that Michael guy remixed it or whatever, but i bet it was a whole lot better.

Of course maybe it'll grow on me upon further listening, i really hope so. Fiona is one of the artists that i'll try my hardest to like before actually deciding not even to keep the cd in my cd binder (a huge sign i'm not going to be listening to it all that much).

Anyone else heard it? It's released Oct. 4th so i guess it's not in stores yet, but let me know what you think about it if you ever get it. kk?k.

I liked the first leaked version of Fiona's EM - have yet to hear the released version...

I only got to download 5 tracks from the original leak, all of which I thought were brilliant. I guess I'll probably be disappointed with the new versions of those, but the rest will be new to me anyway. I just can't wait to hear the other songs, new versions or not.

Can u please tell me where tou ordered it?

I pre ordered it like a month ago from Sony. For the free post cards. I think I'll save them and sell them on Ebay in 30 years;)

i do like first version (jon brion's production), and i think she's still an angry emotional person, just look at some of her lyrics

I heard some of the new versions and they didn't sound better than the versions i downloaded from the leaked version. Those seemed a lot more powerful and more centered around her voice; now i only heard a 'soup' of sounds with the 'original' mixed to the background...
but i'd love to hear the opinion of someone who really has the album versions and can compare them to the leaked ones.

seriously though, if anyone's willing to burn the leaked versions onto a cd and send them to me, maybe i could make it worth your while...i really don't know how, but gimme a try. And no, "i'm not a slut. I'm a puerto rican woman senior!" (i've watched Superstar way too many times).

I've listened to the album of Fiona and I like it. The Jon Brion versions were very stripped down. The new producer added some colour to the songs and I like it that way.

You know, I'd love to say it's a great album and that it's grown on me...but i just can't. The more i listen to it the more I see how all the songs are so plainly about the same thing. The only one i like alittle is Get Him Back. The songs lack so much poetically, and musically too. It seems like she's either changed woth the rest of them, or forgotten alot. And without remembering, there's hardly any depth at all. And that's why i liked Fiona, because of her depth, poetic lyrics, passion, piano etc. I've tried to like it, really, but I've come to the conclusion i can live without Extraordinary Machine in my 'immediately available to listen to' cd collection. It's going on the shelf.

And that Window song really gets on my nerves.

i'll pm you about sending some of the 'original' versions, cause i think they're probably a lot better than the cd versions. maybe you'll enjoy listening to those a lot more

please do. i'm desparately (but reasonably) seeking out ways to retain my respect for Fiona at present. I'll always love her for When the pawn and tidal.

I downloaded the CD - I always to that before I buy - and it's lacking compared to the old version. The CD is not so angry or fresh.

The only new version I really love is Oh Sailor.

just saw the o'sailor video in vh1. It's not bad, it has style i guess. Kinda exciting thinkin about how people will see it and remember the old stuff of hers. It's liek she's been resurrected of something;) I could never express the depth of feeling her first two cds bring out in me. I'm gonna go listen to Tidal.
