Don't you guys think that the Dancer in the the Dark soundtrack is really really cool?
I just happen to listen to it now after a few years without it, and gosh, isn't that a great record? Bjork, for me, remains untouchable with what she has achieved, no matter if people are disapointed by the recent works.

And I had last night in my walkman [music] the old Pixies' Surfer Rosa, and isn't that a really huge piece of jump around n' shake ur head??? That cd really rocks!!!

Well, i know i am not talking about anything new really... [king] (I wish I was...I am in an incredible tunnel of I don't find anything terrific and new. Please help me!!!!!!!!!! [help] !!!!!!! [help] )
But don't u sometimes re-hear an old record and think u need to shout to the world how brilliant they are and how well they cope with time?

i miss that album! i've lost it twice. I remember first hearing it, i wasn't sure what to think, then the next week was nonstop of it. I want my funeral song to be The Overture. It's sooo beautiful. how it starts out soft and smooth and gets stronger and stronger..makes you feel powerful and strong yourself and i can't help but close my eyes and soak it in..unless i'm driving...
But yeah, Bjork is and always will be untouchable, i think even all the media realizes that. they also realize that she has slowly been going crazy all these years..never quite like the rest of us...and is now coming closest of all to snapping. But we all knew it's happen. She's gonna be this crazy old lady poking kids with her umbrella and recording the sound of it to make music still..LOL

Hey, has anyone heard the Rasputina's imitation of her and PJ Harvey? It's freakin hilarious. My friends and i still quote it years later.

As for music Elf, I must seriously suggest Blonde Redhead's "Misery is a Butterfly". A sound like no other. You just may like it. And it you don't give it a try, maybe you'll kick yourself one day because you didn't...

The great thing about the 'Dancer' s/t is that it really works from the fantasy the heroine has of being in the movies/the musical theatre...so that each piece builds lyrically from that premise,and musically from the ambient sounds around her daydreams.It's beautifully done,and on screen.
As for Bjork going dotty recording all kinds of sounds,well,people in the world of serious composition have been doing it for nigh on a hundred years.It's no big deal.John Cage made it abundantly clear over 50 years ago that music and sound are not seperate entities.The best definition of music I've heard is 'the art of sound'.More power to Bjork's elbow,I say.

I was the only one with the bjork obsession among them, they loved to crack on me.

concerning the soundtrak though, I think "Smith & Wesson" should have been included in it. It really brings the reality to the soundtrak. Then again, I've never been depressed by listening to Bjork's music, so maybe not...It's the song she sang as she was..well, i'm not going to ruin the movie for you if you haven't seen it, but it's at the very end. Hurts my heart every time. And the sound at the end... I DLed it online a long while ago.

Oh yes, certainly. I haven't heard it through without the pictures, but it certainly makes the film. TBH, I've been disappointed with everything else of hers that's reached my ears since "Birthday". She never quite pulls it all together. At least the soundtrack is supposed to be Selma's idea of a musical, so it doesn't matter if it isn't quite coherent.

Pretty much the same here. But then I'm not looking very hard so it's not so surprising. I try to get all my emusic downloads every month, but I'm mostly going for old music even then.

Actually yeah, it's *very* different. It's more soundtracky and passionate and sad. the first song catches you alone, then you hear the rest (esp tracks 2,3 and 5 for me) you're stuck in awe. It makes me sad b/c of the memeroies i've had with it, but it's absolutely beautiful. Nothing like anything they've ever done previously. That's why they're so great, they can change and still be right on the ball.

Fake can be just as good is my favorite song on the album you have.I think that song has a sort of yearning sadness to it. If you like that album, you won't be disappointed. Plus, the artwork on the cd booklet of Misery is BEAUTIFUL.

yep, sure, quite often.
The last one I listened to with that feeling was No way by Run On, a band composed by Sue Garner, Alan Licht, Rick Brown & Katie Gentile. It was released on 1997 on Matador rec. A quite obscure little thing, exp?rimental & pop and rock and indefinable.

Oh, an obvious one, this is one of my favorite albums : Scarnella, with Nels Cline & Carla Bozulich.
