I know most people here are not into modern black and street music, Duncan is gone into another galaxy but I think St Francis was into it as well? Maybe Picsou was into it as well?
Anyway, I know Miss D. is far from being an underground explosive dj, but I really enjoyed her first album that I nicked from my lil sister (it's good to have one sometimes, it keeps in the hype).
Did anyone listen to the last one? I am thinking of buying it but I am really not sure. Please push me just a bit.

By the way, I don't remember who else liked the Streets, but I got so disapointed with the second...If that wasn't for the accent and the humour...

The Roots are interesting, just as some other hip-hop artists can make some interesting stuff from time to time; but i'm not really looking for it or listening that much; only album i listen to is that one of puff daddy

well, the last ms dynamite album is definitely not as good as the first one i must say.
i mean, it has its moment off course but overall, it lacks of constancy.
half of the tracks are great nevertheless...and maybe i just expected this album too much, that's probably why i was not totally satisfied with it.


apart from that, i like aaliyah. she was just a fantastic performer!

aaliyah? sorry but i can't miss the chance to make fun of someone for liking aaliyah, even if you are a S.N. lover...lol...um, so consider yourself made fun of for liking her. i'm to lazy to think of anything to say.

the only black artist's cd i want to buy is Missy Elliot. I'm convinced there's some real talent there that's not completely bull. Other than that i have Billie Holiday and Roberta Flack's best hits cd. xray spex's singer, Polly is black.. but hip hop's so not my thing. my mom's black and sings (but not hip hop) if that counts'

it's ok ruth , i guess it's among my "guilty pleasure"!
i don't really listen to a lot of "r&b/hiphop" music but aaliyah's self titled
record is one of the rare exceptions!
even now, i'm still fascinated by the sparkling & sophisticated production, it was just an innovative r&b album back in 2001.
and of course, there was aaliyah's singing,which was very humble and very sensual.(a rare thing nowadays in r&b)
i don't know,but for me,there are a lot to blame before aaliyah...

I must get those Congotronics CDs once I'm back home. Black and street, but sadly not mainstream.

I've got that Konono No.1 CD now. Cracking dance music! From the pictures, they're definitely black. And if they don't literally play in the street they at least play outside. The receipt describes it as "popular" as well, so the shop must think it's mainstream.
