Does anyone want to talk about this amazing film? It's up there on my favourites list, but I'm not sure I understand it fully yet.

This movie is indeed very good, but somehow i can't bring myself to watching it again... i guess it's not fun enough and too serious; but nevertheless very well made and if it's on tv i'll watch it

It's worth seeing the second time so that you understand it a bit more. It's a quite good film, but excellent for proving that there are some original ideas in films. Even if this one started out as a short story. Perhaps I've opened the floodgates now and I'll be given a list of films that are based on the same idea

I'm about to watch it again, I've just bought the 3-disc special edition on the strength of the first viewing. Interestingly, there's an option on disc 3 to watch the film in chronological order of events, ie forwards. I'm sure I'll do that eventually, but I want to be more familiar with it as is first. The ploy of running the narrative structure backwards to give the viewer a sense of what it's like to be Leonard is one of the few truly original ideas I've seen in recent cinema.
What do we make of the story of Sammy Jenkins? The person I watched it with has a theory that this is a fabrication of Leonard's confused mind, that in fact he may have transposed his own and his wife's identities with those of Sammy Jenkins and his wife (sorry for the convoluted way of saying that, I'm trying not to give away more details than necessary for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.) This hadn't even occurred to me, I just accepted the story on face value. The more I think about it though ....

Oh definitely see it, it's not very often that a screenwriter comes up with something so fresh these days.

I don't see why we shouldn't take Sammy Jenkins at face value, given that the film doesn't stand up to much scrutiny. I mean, as this man's clearly a dangerous lunatic, and wouldn't remember being locked up long enough to lodge a complaint, why is he allowed on the streets? But if you accept the scenario at face value, it's an original and thought provoking story.
Or maybe we could go into some huge, post-modernist rationalisation. Like the "Darth Vader was working for the Rebellion all along" kind of thing.

there is actually a fan's forum to discuss Chris Nolan's films, especially Memento...have to look it up on wiki..
