i'm not even sure if i spelled the title right...

Anyone else see this movie? I didn't think it was a masterpiece, but i thought it was a great love story, besides the depressing parts of it, which were many. I'd like to buy it when it comes out. Might even see it again in the theatre.

it's aimed at a target market that doesn't even know that the three main actresses are Chinese, of a movie adapted from an American novel that was supposedly based on a true Japanese story but whose American author was sued by his Japanese source for depicting parts of Geisha-hood (?) wrongly. the three actresses in the supposedly Japanese movie don't even speak Japanese. Instead they speak bad english, which i suppose was dubbed in Japanese in Japan when it came out. It's just like Crouching Tiger, where the Hong Kong actors spoke this really bad mandarin and the subtitles were so weird and generic it was just funny. To the Asian audience it's really weird to see this celebration of their own culture and its excesses targeted at the western world, it's like sexualising the Orient in an incestuous way...(i mean that not literally)

Yeah. I know it was Hollywood-ized bigtime. I didn't know about the book being written by an American that was sued, though. I'd heard it was taken from a book and I was hoping it was a japanese book it was taken from. I like the movie for what it was, but no one should ever look to Hollywood as a reliable source for anything. I wonder what the old fashioned Japanese think of it.

You are right. And this movie received pretty bad reviews from Japanese people. This is just entertaimant. All of it is not true Dancing, Talking, Traditional background, Dignity........ not real.

I don't like Japanese movie made by foreign directors. Last Samurai too.
These movie's hyperbole was so extreme it was laughable...
