Mine are Tiny Mix Tapes and 'good old' Pitchfork - although both are often questionable, but however, they are an inspiration (which led myself to discover some new faves of mine).

I see, you don't use any music reviews sources.

I think most of the contributors to this board have a wide knowledge and appreciation of music across many genres, probably enough to rely on their own reviews.

This forum is not what it used to be.

This - of course - has partly to do with the lack of news or new music from Stina N, as well as the demise of the old CQD forum back in 2005.

Please don't interpret the lack of response in a thread as ignorance or anything like that.

To answer your question, I sometimes check out Pitchfork .

It's the only one I know about

For me it was simply by reading reviews in Q magazine..........and very very occasionally,being attracted by a album cover in a resord shop......which is how I discovered Stina's music.

I always made a point of reading interviews with artists I liked, which would invariably put me on to artists who'd influenced them. I heard a wide variety of music too, just from friends, neighbours and family. I'd talk to the boy in the record shop about stuff he liked. I borrowed loads from the local library just to see if it was interesting. Listened to the radio.

How quaint of me.

I don't really use music review sites. Most of the artists I listen to are connected somehow, so it's easy to branch out.

I use my ears.
Most people who write about music,especially popular music, have little or no knowledge of the structure or language of music,so I don't trust their opinions-because that's all they are-opinions.
I borrow things from Libraries,listen to radio programmes where I'm likely to hear interesting music,and I'm around other musicians all the time so might go and listen to what they're into,but most music reviews are about sociological mores and fashion,IMHO.

Exactly, and unfortunately we no longer live in an age where the people who write them can even be trusted to do so with any degree of original thought or individual expression, either. The degree of lazy shorthand that constitutes most 'reviews' these days is shocking, and renders them quite useless, as far as I can see.

I don't possess any musical language or structural understanding either, but I still trust my own judgement way before the average music journalist when it comes to knowing what I like.

The time before the internet was hellish - even to find out discographies was a problem.
