Punch Drunk Love

Anyone else seen this oddity from Paul Thomas Anderson, director of 'Boogie Nights' and 'Magnolia'? It stars Adam Sandler and Emily Watson, an unlikely romantic duo, I think you'll agree.
Normally I would vault an electric fence to avoid any film with Adam Sandler in it, but he's surprisingly good here as an intensely lonely, rather eccentric man struggling with extreme anxiety and emotional isolation. I've watched the film twice now, liked it better second time around, but what of the harmonium and the candy-striped interludes? Haven't a clue what to make of those.

Nope. Haven't watched it but being a hardcore fan of both Boogie Nights and Magnolia, I'm definitely will be watching this one. Thanks for the suggestion!

I saw it a long time ago and really enjoyed it !
I love Emily Watson as an actress since Breaking The Waves.

Yeah!!
I saw it in Scotland when it came out and it was such a super cool movie!
I was a bit drunk though and came out thinking it was pure genious.
I bought the dvd recently and saw it again sober and now think it is a really cool and great movie. Love it!

I think I'll be adding it to my DVD wish-list. There's something moving about it, you can't help feeling for the central character as he stumbles through life, hanging on by the thread of his weird obsessions. It makes you want to laugh but in a sort of empathetic way - the bit where all hell is breaking loose around him at work and he just stands there with his hand on the harmonium, and you just know that harmonium is the only thing between him and a complete nervous breakdown, is so touching and funny and sad all at the same time. And the fact that there turns out to be such a fantastically wonderful point to all that pudding is just brilliant.

Yep yetp, saw it and really enjoyed it. I also usually hate Sandler but I kind of respect him ever since this movie. He can be a serious actor.

I love the music in this film, I didn't realise it was Jon Brion - that makes sense. The feel of some of the music reminds me a bit of the original leaked tracks from Fiona Apple's 'Extraordinary Machine', produced by Brion.
