Desire Avenue

Just to let you know, there's a new M. Night Shyamalan (what a name ) movie coming out soon (at least in the USA ) called Lady in the Water; now from the trailer it looks like he's picking it up from where Signs didn't go further, scary things coming for us people. So it might be more of a scary story... But of course the thing i'm most wondering about is: will there be a TWIST

So i'm bringing this to your attention for those (un)lucky americans who can see it first to go see it and give their opinion...

as long as the ending isn't as dissapointing as it was on The Villiage

I guess the first movie of Shyamalan was real good. The second was nice. The third was boring. The fourth was predictable. The fifth I won't be seeing.

'Unbreakable' is one of my favourite movies ever, and I loved 'The Sixth Sense', so I'll check this one out. The problem with having a twist at the end every time is that once people know to expect it, they're looking out for clues all through the movie so the screenplay really has to be top-notch to pull it off successfully. Which the last two .... weren't, really. But maybe he's found his groove again.

I quite liked the ending (and the whole story for that matter) even though it wasn't particularly original, as i'm sure their was a similar 'twilight zone' episode years before.
What I didn't like was the deliberate 'grave stone' red herring at the very start which wasn't really neccesary.

Incidentally,did anyone ever get to see 'Lady In The Water'?
I think it got universally panned.

It got terrible reviews here, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's really bad. It's still on my DVDs-to-rent list.

Oh I can't be bothered to rent.....i'd rather pick up a cheap £3 second hand copy from cash converters.

Yes,rentings getting too expensive.In my local shop they charge €4.50 per night !!!I can buy most of them for a fiver...and then sell 'em on if i wish.

I get them off Amazon, six quid a month. Huge choice, sent to your door, you can keep them however long you like, post 'em back when you're done.

I have a thing about not buying DVDs unless they're things I've already seen and want to own. I can't afford too many extras like books, CDs, DVDs, so I need to focus on what I really want to own, rather than things I haven't seen yet.

U nfortunately for me,the Amazon deal doesnt extend to Ireland,and as i prefer non english films(French and Oriental mostly)Ihave to buy them,cos they aint shown in cinemas here and they sure dont have them in local dvd hire shops ."WHA"

The Guardian does a similar thing to Amazon-dunno if it extends to Eire.

Yep, it's a flat fee that you pay once a month off your debit card. £5.99 is the basic one, you can choose 3 films which are sent to you one at a time. You can keep them as long as you like, but you don't get the next one on your list until you've returned the previous one, so obviously it makes sense to not keep them longer than ten days each, otherwise you're paying more for less. I haven't found so far that I've had a month where I haven't used up my allotted rentals. If you would like more than 3 a month you can upgrade, I think it's £7.99 for 5 and £9.99 for 7, though it's been a while since I checked. With the upgraded packages you can have more than one DVD at a time.

I just find it really convenient - I never have trouble choosing 3 a month from the huge range, you've got time to watch them a couple of times or more if you really love them, and it's a cheap way to discover films you want to buy. (Oh, if you rent from Amazon you also get a discount when you buy from them.)
