Mercury Music Prize 2006

Mr. Yorke is there, predictably, but apart from his album the only others I'm at all interested in checking out are 'Ballad of the Broken Seas' and 'White Bread Black Beer.' Anyone heard either of those? I'm a bit afraid to try the former because of the Belle and Sebastian connection.
I loved Green Gartside back in the 80s when I was a young 'un, so I'm more confident about his latest.
Apparently Yorke and The Arctic Monkeys are equal favourites to win.

Oh, that Richard Hawley one - any thoughts on that? Q magazine gave away a free cd last month with various current artists covering 80s/90s songs, and his version of 'Some Candy Talking' is effing awesome. What a voice.

Never heard of most of them,and don't much care
I had a quick dekko at the list to see what they've chucked in for the 'token jazz act that ain't gonna win' annual bollocks.And shocked to see that there either isn't one or else I'm so out of touch that I haven't heard of whoever it might be.
Zoe Rahman looks like the likeliest candidate since she seems to be perched on a legit Joanna,for what it's worth.But then my eyesight's out of touch too

I just realised Lou Rhodes is the singer from Lamb. Might be worth checking that one out too, I loved the voice.
Just had a look at the reviews on Amazon and the Lamb fans don't like it musically, which is good news.
Apparently it's folksy. Hmm. Might have to pick up a secondhand copy.

my partner likes the lou rhodes album alot, I'm not really into her voice so I won't comment!
I'm crossing my fingers for Hot Chip, their album is great, as is the Editors. Not sure why the likes of Muse and Thom Yorke are nominated, I've always felt that established successful artists don't really need the publicity and prize money...

There's chatter about them wanting to give Thom some sort of pat on the head because Radiohead have been nominated twice and not won either time. Not that he needs it.
I loved Lou Rhodes' voice but hated Lamb's music, so I'm thinking I might like her album - I don't mind folksy.

Lou Rhodes has just moved into a house up the road with some friends of mine...Yet to meet her myself but I will soon enough.
