El Laberinto del Fauno / Pan's Labyrinth

"Pan's Labyrinth" is the story of a young girl that travels with her mother and adoptive father to a rural area up North in Spain, 1944. After Franco?s victory. The girl lives in an imaginary world of her own creation and faces the real world with much chagrin. Post-war Fascist repression is at its height in rural Spain and the girl must come to terms with that through a fable of her own."
A new film by Guillermo del Toro in spanish (so i'm wondering if they'll dub it or subtitle). It looks very interesting and I think it was well received at Film Festivals. Unfortunately there's still no release date for the Netherlands, but for Belgium it's November 22.

One of the most unintentionally funny films I ever saw was the subtitled version of Almodovar's 'Woman on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown' which single-handedly introduced the curse "Brummer!" into the English language.
There were many other innovations, which I no longer recall.
Beware Spaniards bearing subtitles.

What a stunning film, one of the best films I've seen possible ever. I bawled through the last 20 minutes of this and had to watch it again the night after when I had composed myself!
Haven't been so upset since Dancer In The Dark.....!

I've finally seen this movie! I bought it on dvd and I wasn't let down; it's very impressive! I really like the idea how they combined the fantasy with the harshness of the real world events. And yes the end is heartbraking.

Yes the way the fantasy world and the harsh all too real world come together in this films is brilliant, and the bit where she eats that bloody grape had me practically screaming NOO!!! at the TV!!! Guillermo del Toro is one of my favourite directors, Cronos and The Devil's Backbone are also very worthy films, plus I have rather a soft spot for his adaptation of Hellboy...
