Tchad also does The Bad Plus,who I saw in concert a few months back.Bizarrely for a cult act,they're a standard jazz trio,piano upright bass,drums (hey! and the drummer shares my name!).Good ,though I'n puzzled why the rock guys have singled them out.


And,ahem,I have a little connection to Stina via Tchad Blake.His wife Jackie (also a Realworld engineer,mentioned in the article) engineered an album I did in '99-'00.She used a microphone that was shaped like a human head,and always referred to it as 'Blake'. (This was just before they got married).She was great,wacky,hair in pink dreads.

I seem to remember that the first time i ever heard about this microphone 'configuration'(sic) was around 1982 when Pink Floyd were using it for their 'The Final Cut' album..... it was tied in with producing holophonic soundfx i think.

Just browsing the cd booklet and there is a credit 'holophonics by zuccarelli labs ltd' so i guess it was they who developed the system.

Here it is,it's called the Neumann KU 100,(or Blake,if you're Jackie Blake).NB Jackie gets a credit on 'This Is'...
