I just saw this movie two seconds ago, and it seems the film is as depressing as the song. German with English subtitles. It's set during World War II. I'm not sure how accurate the history is of the song (over 157 suicides to the record in Hungary alone), but I just know every time I heard the song I got chills.
It wasn't a classic movie, but I love the song. I'm gonna be doing some research on it all and find out how much of it is "hollywood".
