Desire Avenue

This morning I took delivery of Emma's latest album, 'Varje Flickas Drom', and what a beauty of an album it is.

Those with long memories will know that I very much enjoyed Emma's last album but this latest one totally eclipses it.

The production has a fuller sound and the playing more imaginative with some fine combination of strings / keyboards / brass / guitar / percussion and backing vocals performances.

All the songs have strong melodies and basically theer's not a duff track to be heard.

Definately this is one of the most uplifting and (at times) joyous albums i've heard for a long time.

Great stuff........its just a shame I don't understand a word of what Emma is singing about.

good to hear; i've really enjoyed the two tracks that Kuhn put online on youtube (link below); I wonder how different they are from the album version? The strings are great and I really enjoy the lyrics of these songs too (knowing some swedish ). It's an album i'll definitely buy when i'm in Sweden again I think (probably this summer, maybe in spring already)

Hmmm.The first album was so dreadful musically that I'll need a lot of convincing.

Yes it could have been you .......but in this case,it wasn't....shame ....it was some video of someone playing a John Cage piece I seem to remember about the war.

I bought my copy on-line from http://www.cdon.com ........a site I would recommend to anyone having difficulty sourcing albums from Scandanavia.
It cost me 15.95 euros + 3.98 euros postage ( £13.52 in total) but thats considerably cheaper than going to Sweden to buy it.

The 'album versions' retain the same acoustic arrangements / performances but are missing (thankfully) the screechy cello of the live versions.
'Jag Saknar Dig' instead features a kind of distant, slightly phased trumpet whilst 'Parlan' has the sounds of a fog horn and breaking waves on a beach!

Emma now has a second site on the My Space website,this time with songs sung in English.

The first song, 'the Room' is one of the most beautiful and haunting songs i've heard for some considerable time.

Great articles Paul.....hopefully someone who knows Swedish will be able to highlight any important info.

I did work out from the top article that Emma is 34 years old......or rather she's now 35 as the article is (over) a year old.

I've never been sure who was elder sister was but it would appear that Stina is the eldest by about three years.
