Well guys, it's time to hear from you French friends, you're getting a new president, agree with the winner? The country is already uproaring about it and the police is already reacting as well...

it's a sad day for me, I dislike many ideas behind Sarkosy's plan for the future.
In a happier note, I'm glad 46% of the french people agrees to vote for a woman, this is a great step forward.

I don't know his programma so well, but from some comments I heard I can't say I like his attitude...

Will Sarkozy mean a real, remarkable change for France? The right-center is ever more boosted by the general social dissatisfaction in all big countries, on one side we are running to include more countries in the union, on the other side we're not coping with the ones we already have and with the immigrants...it's depressing, really, right now I feel that no matter which other country I'd move to, I'll keep feeling like I do here in the netherlands, an intruder, tolerated just partially...

I can understand being sad, but not angry. French people voted and even if the result is not what you expected, this is how democracy works.
I don't like Sarkozy and his incredible thirst for power, but I found Ségolène even worse with her demagogy.

Demagogy or xenofobia seem to be the only weapens used by many politicians by now, bah.
My problem with democracy lately is that no matter where I am and for whom I vote, I never get ruled by the ones I wanted to elect or the way I hoped to be, but that's how it goes, till the next election..

To be honest, Royal is not my cup of tea at all. I didn't voted for her, but against Sarkozy. Most of the media here relay Sarkozy's ideas, most of his ideas are harmful to modest people and pretty positive for the mighty, his unofficial slogan could be "work family homeland" and almost "arbeit macht frei". A bit too much you could say ?

As the Minister of the Interior during the last years, we had many many examples about his way to deal with the power and the friends with power he had. And it's frightening. Really.

And yes, I'm not only sad, I'm angry, democracy as it is now must be really rethought in its entirety. Power is in the media's hands and the media are in the hands of multinational companies. What the fuck ? [:xx]

oh Rob, my real problem is the disappointing inadecuacy of the left, left-center coalitions in Italy so far, it's enervating and I just can't vote for anything else...here I have no right to vote in national elections yet, but if you know who's ruling the government you'll understand my stomachaches...

Yes, treating someone of Jewish descent (but even if he wasn't) of nazi, is a little too much. I'm against the demonization of the antagonists and if Royal lost is also for this kind of propaganda.

actually, Sarkozy used regularly the sentence "le travail rend libre" : see an interesting article about it here (fr).

I am also against demonization. But there are facts you can't deny.
